Jungle Escape WIP

Archive: 27 posts

Following the wonderful comments/suggestions of my latest level Tomb of Tutensackmun 2, I've decided to be directed by LBPCentral Sackfolk for the final chapter. This doesn't specifically have to be by Karting Sackfolk but all are welcome to help design my next level.

(If you're on the forums as a Guest, then please register and suggest anything you think fits in with the theme)

Laidbackcat suggested that the final instalment might be an escape through a jungle environment. Also suggested was the ability to use a gun, maybe to shoot creatures or help clear obstacles.

I like the jungle idea. I have a boat created and sections of 'rapids' for part of the adventure ready to go.

Grapple/swinging was suggested by StJimmysAdiction, yep I like that too. I'm thinking bamboo bridges that will double up as places to swing under and tricky narrow areas to traverse across on top.

The use of a gun is fine, I can definitely incorporate that, but I don't really want this to be a boss fight level. Puzzles/platforming/skill sections is really the way I want to go. I am open to suggestions though, hence the post.

I intend (thermo permitting) to have a dramatic end cinematic sequence for this final instalment and all design suggestions used in the level will be credited for their input.

Any chance of a Venus fly trap ? Or other type of vine like plant enemy(use your imagination) ? Some heavy fog for one area at least ? Some beautiful flowers that have a gameplay purpose other than just to look pretty ? And a cursed signpost made up of human body parts that gives you an in game tip or geographic directions ? The signpost hasn't spoken to anyone in 200 years ! That's enough otherwise you'll call me greedy....... maybe human body parts is a bit extreme ? Skull and crossbones or stone statue could work better.2016-01-18 12:04:00

Not for a little while. I've just set up the 'health' system which obviously you lose a little each time you die. 'Life' can be replenished by either shooting fruit from trees and/or just finding and eating it.

Expect to die a lot on this level, it's part of the game. As per my recent creations you only get bounced back to the section start anyway.

I've also gone for sound effects not music as such, though there may be some subtle background theme going on in the 'indoor' sections.

Loads still to do, plenty of thermo left this time.

Have some nice 'swinging' through vines/plants as suggested, incorporated already, whilst avoiding the snapping crocodile. Pic below
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/1689068/data.jpg

Multipath available when boating down the rapids.

The usual mix of skill, platforming, puzzles and switches.

We'll see if we get any takers for this level? (Now with no LBPC Spotlights for Karting creators there's even less chance of them getting played, in my opinion this is a real shame as it used to make the extensive creation time at least worth the effort when you achieved at least a respectful nod)

Thats a pity to hear, but maybe its an effect of PSN problems, which people are talking about currently! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

That's exactly what I'm talking about and also I will take this opportunity to apologise for not playing your level yet. I will get to it but other family issues have taken priority recently, hence why my own level is taking forever to get to any kind of playable state.

Can't see it being done for some time yet.

Thanks Jurgen....... as for yourself Scorpio, you should understand that because you upload so many levels people need a break from your material. "Familiarity breeds contempt", whilst "absence makes the heart grow fonder". If you don't have a duration away, people will have a duration away from you....... then come back when they're ready.2016-01-20 12:22:00

Entirely fair comments Farmer_Freakeasy. Taken on board. Maybe a sabbatical is in order? Nah. Don't think so.2016-01-20 17:09:00

Really like the Venus flytrap idea. Should be able to include that. I have some plants already in a swamp section that are used to swing from. Also I think I could use the 'fog' idea in the final area. Thanks for the suggestions.

Spookily i have the switches within the level already made from a skeleton arm.

Really like the Venus flytrap idea.

Credit to Farmer_Freakeasy for the idea. Have created a second section of swamp in which you have to get over moving bamboo walkways whilst avoiding getting chomped by the plants.

Nice tangle of greenery. The Venus looks vicious. Have to say i admire this project....... incorporating other people's ideas into a whole level. Not something that i'd be able to do myself i think.2016-01-25 11:38:00

I do think it'll be a bit of a 'mashed' level, I'm getting ideas thrown at me from lots of sources. As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier!

As long as they fit roughly within the 'junglish' theme I'll try and incorporate anything/everything I can.

Just looking at the 'stone head' idea you put forward FF, thinking it could be similar to the one in the 'Night at the Museum' film. I created some already in one of my old levels, Island Hopping. Interestingly that's the level that will be unpublished to publish this one I think. A fitting retirement to one of my early attempts at kart level creation.

Will post some pics when the 'head' design comes together.

An update, Sackfriends.......

The 'stoneheads' are built and will help you along the way with clues, although sometimes cryptic. Wouldn't want it too easy!

I've been working on the shooting section. Specifically a 'find the symbols and shoot them' section, I haven't decided whether this will be time constrained yet. If thermo allows this area will be set within a labyrinth/cave environment.

I will post pics when I get the cave section built.

I've decided I hate weapon blast sensors. They never work when you want them to and activate when the shot is seemingly nowhere near them.

It would be great to have the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the blast radius.......a 'tagged' weapon is the answer then, you say. Nope.......because they can't be relied on either. The game simply isn't fast enough to recognise the tag.

The 'find and shoot' area is going to take further thought.

In the meantime here's a pic as promised: One of the helpful 'Stoneheads' outside the temple entrance.

The rethink is still ongoing regarding the shooting section. I have the idea set and have built the targets but just how it all fits together is the head scratching bit.

To give myself some space I've built a large spiral downward which will lead into the shooting area....

https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/1698102/data.jpg

It's my hope that the next update will also be the last before publishing.

That's a beautiful spiral, I could never get them to turn out very well

Aligning the outer stone edging is the fiddly bit.

The spiral itself is fairly simple, try this.....

Go into your collected objects popit, choose a high left (or right) hand ramp from the battle arena items. Place that ramp. Now clone it, turn it 90 degrees and and align it's end with the one previously. Repeat until you have the length of spiral you want.

Well, once again Sackfriends, I've run out of thermo.

I now have to backtrack through the level and remove what I can so I can finish.

It's so frustrating. This is definitely going to look sparse.

It just needed 20% more programming space.

I'll try to tidy this up tomorrow.

Sackfriends....the level is now published!

Okay, as expected the level looks a little 'unfinished' with the removal of some scenic bits and pieces, but necessary to get everything working correctly.

Hope you enjoy my latest offering, Jungle Escape
