Tomb Of Tutensackmun 2 WIP

Archive: 12 posts

Hello Sackfolk.

Yes, I'm building the sequel to one of my old favourites. Tomb of Tutensackmun (https://karting.lbp.me/v/opwi)

You can look forward to a totally new adventure, utilising as much sneaky logic as possible.

Unlike the original, this will be a 1st person view but you can still count on lots of puzzles, traps and skill sections to negotiate.

I'll see just how many prize giveaways I can fit in this time!

Difficult to post pics without giving too much away but I'll look to see if there's an angle to show off the scenery.

In my other 1st person view levels you can look around, with this one you also have the handy "footprint" camera angle, yes you can literally see your footprints as you walk along. Might be very useful in certain instances.........no more hints.

More soon...

Another pic, the entrance to the tomb.

The build is coming along well. I am a little concerned that the average time to complete the level could be 30mins or more, so this really will be one you'll have to set aside some time for.

I have used forced resetting on this, for those not familiar with this bit of logic, it just means that if you die during the level you will respawn at the start of that section, not back at the start. Seems only fair especially if you've just struggled through a tough part.

Scorpio, if the level is 30 minutes long, I would suggest you to add an exit Command ( like in sacksbyville), to make sure that every plays will count.

CuriousSack, there is lot of plateform level on lbpkarting, that deserve to be played, so you can try them before tomb of tutensackmun is being released.

Point well made Gipsy as I think I may have been a little conservative with that time as well, unless you are a master puzzler.

I'm in a slight dilemma in that I'm trying to make it playable and fun but some of the 'challenges' will be quite frustrating and I don't want Sackfolk giving up due to this, hence putting the restart spawn points at the beginning of each section rather than the start of the level.

I'm also considering whether to put in some hidden shortcuts which will only reveal themselves if you decide to finish the level early and want to come back later. These will only show depending on how far you've got. Hope that makes sense.

This is all to be determined by the thermo of course!

Hi gipsy, I would love to play some karting levels, but my PS3 has broken on last December and I think I won't be able to revive before next January. 2015-10-11 16:42:00

Update: As expected the thermo is dangerously high. Fortunately it's almost there.

Entirely my own fault with the thermo as the last area is full of motors. Should have built that first!

Have found a couple of tips to pass on during this build.

1. Clone whenever possible rather than creating/placing new items. Even if you build in a different 'design' level and insert the object into the 'proper' level it definitely uses more thermo.

2. If you don't want to limit using different materials then try to keep the amount on screen to a minimum. This seems to help in reducing lag.

3. Before saving your level during a build, move the camera so you're not showing anything if possible (point the cam towards the ground) then save, you'll find that the game saves more quickly. Strange but true.

Update:

First full beta testing of the level showed up a few glaringly obvious issues, easily sorted out fortunately.

Now just the finishing decoration tweaks to complete and 'exit' command, as suggested by Gipsy, to install.

Not going to be able to do the shortcuts unfortunately, no room on the thermo. For a future level (TUT3 maybe?)

Not long to wait now Adventurers!

Meet Tutensackmun. He's quite a generous fellow, ready to hand out some of his treasures should you get through his tomb and find him. He doesn't talk too much though, has limited patience and he's, well......a bit dead, so forgive him for being a little grumpy when you meet.

Just a few niggles to sort out Sackfolk. Am hoping to publish this weekend but thought you might like to meet the old pharaoh.

Well Sackfolk, as fully expected I've run out of thermo.

Time to do the honourable thing then, tidy up and publish!

Expect Tomb of Tutensackmun 2 to be available from 10am GMT Saturday.

Thought I'd give a definite time so all those 'tomb raiders' out there in Sackland will know when they can get stuck in.

I'll post the Showcase then as well.
