question for portals

ok so i'm starting up a new series which is an rpg, well i'm making towns that ur character can use to get things from(items, weapons, etc) but making seperate levels for every town is to wasteful, so i'm gonna make around 6 different towns in 1 level, but i need to make a portal system to get to each town individually, cuz u can't go from one town 2 the next, some towns will require u get a sticker to work it's portal, so basically, i need 2 know how to make my sackboy go from one spot 2 one of my towns without running there, hope it isn't tooo confusing, please and thx2009-03-05 03:01:00

The only things I can think of are a catapult (too iffy), an underground system (where a rocket-powered lift could take you to the other towns), or an emitted winch system that carries you above the towns.2009-03-05 12:06:00

you could have a checkpoint in like a room, and you step into somewhere, where your gonna teleport, then a sensor switch to move the checkpoint reeaalllly quickly (like 0.1 seconds) to the town, and have a sensor switch to activate a timer (say 2 seconds) to either emit or bring down dangerous gas, so you die and respawn at the town.

But then if you die in the town, you automatically get sent to the next one.. so you could miss a lot..

use a transit system (ie. subway). Use 1 track to go 1 direction, and another track to go the other direction. To me this seems like the most logical and natural way of solving your dilema.2009-03-09 15:52:00
