Dynamic thermo and self made load screen

Hi everyone, punk_jr here

I have a little question to ask. I'm making a level were the player is teleported to another section of the level. The level is also set to dynamic thermo and I will have other sections of the level out already, as in i will not emit any portions of the level as the players explores and travels to various sections of my level(over using the word level lol). For example, if you're in the bathroom and grab the doorknob, you will be teleported to another section of the level-the living room. All of the rooms are spaced out so I can add much detail, and I so the thermometer will not overheat.

Ok so here is my Question. Let's say I set the teleporter to have a 5-10 sec pause to help the game load various parts of the level, but I don't want the game camera so shift between the empty space of the rooms. I want to make a little loading screen in the meantime the player is being transported. If i set a camera to focus on the loading screen will the portion of the level being transported to load or will i hinder it due to the fact the camera is focused on an other portion of the level.

IIRC it's player based, you should actually permanent glue the loading elements so they work when you switch on the camera

I may be wrong, get a second opinion

Here's an idea!

Whenever you activate the door knob to change zones, have it start a very quick cutscene, maybe like 5 seconds. The door grab input can activate a Preloader logic thing that starts the loading early, then a movie camera cross fades into the new area, and the player gets teleported.

Have a loading screen somewhere out of the level. once you grab any doorknob, make it activate a tag, that triggers a tag sensor, which automatically start a movie camera for however long you need it to be before you get to the room.
Pretty easy if you think about it!

Thanks Jamark, I actually thought of that prior to posting on the forum, but i was wondering if the room the player being transported to would load since the camera would focused elsewhere. Thanks though!

I actually found a bug with the character teleporter. The game crashes when I teleport to one room in particular. It doesnt crash when I"m in edit mode, only in play mode. I thought maybe i could work around the bug by having the player teleport twice prior to going to the room I actually want to go to. For example, from going to room A to room B. Instead of going to room B right after grabbing the doorknob. sackboy teleports to 2 other teleporters in between room A and B. It worked in edit mode, but when I tried it in play mode sackboy teleported to random places where microchips were. It was really wonky...... This has caused me to stop working on my level because if the teleporter is not working then my level is practically ruined as is. I'm sure I can find some way around the bug though

my quess is that the area you are teleporting to is not loaded due to the use of dynamic thermo, have you tried using the pre-loader to pre load the target area before you teleport?2015-08-22 09:07:00

yes, I have. It was working until I added more sections to my level. I'll figure it out
Can't wait to share it once I'm almost done. Working on a project!
