Back To The Future: Paradox

Archive: 7 posts

Welcome to new thread for my ongoing Back to the Future project, which I have been transferring over to LBP3 on PS4 since the game?s release.

Recap

I?ll start with recapping my progress from LBP2, detailed in this old thread 'here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=70037-Back-To-The-Future-Paradox-(music-needed))'.

As this was for a competition I rushed to get as much ready as I could before the deadline and made a great deal of progress, but was unable to publish as much if the content as I wanted at the time.

Story since then

I went overseas to work for 3 months, come back to a dead PS3, replace it, and discover that PSN+ hadn?t be auto-backing up all that I thought it would, and my USB key with back ups actually failed.

Then I discovered that LBP2 disc would freeze during the intro in you didn't have a profile, and had to buy the digital version to get around that.

So I lost months of work, had to re-play the game (both LBP1 & LBP2) from scratch, and I only had what I had already published left to work with.

It took a little while to get my motivation back, but when LBP3 was announced the new features (and the beta) got my rebuilding like crazy.

The General Idea

Since the start of this project I have wanted to make content as screen accurate as possible.

I actually sourced Universal Backlot blueprints (where BTTF was filmed), and created all the buildings as close as to scale as possible.

During my rebuild from LBP2 to LBP3 I took this a little further and adjusted the scale to better represent a Sackperson?s slightly shorter stature.

I have used reference images for 1955, 1985, 2015 and 1885 sets and created the facades on for the Universal Backlot buildings for all eras.

I referenced signage, billboards, street signs and other street items to then set dress each time period, and focused on placing these items in there correct location

I also went to this level of detail for the props, costumes, and the DeLorean time machines

I?ll go into more specific details for set and object design in future posts.

I will be sharing all the custom content like an unofficial level pack of sorts. I think that a lot of the signage and buildings will be pretty useful to a few creators.

I have seen a few of my earlier building designs in other peoples levels already, and I would love to see some really great BTTF stages that others have made.

Thanks for the feedback folks

I've been working away on getting the DeLorean finished this last week, and here is a peek of it nearly complete.

This is it in it's first version in the movie, while it sill used plutonium and doesn't have the hover conversion done.

I have the next version done also, and might show it later.

Lol. That is some Serious Sack!

Love it... speaking of 88mph remote control tests I put together a very short video of the DeLorean in motion.

The internals (flux capacitor and wiring) are not finalised yet, but the time travel effects are pretty close to being done.

There are two settings for the car, one that has the viewer stay in the time period (the car disappears), the other that follows the car (switching the time period around the car).

I debated showing this yet, but... well that gif was so darned inspiring!
