For anybody else coming in who's curious about this, since it seems the op figured it out on his own, it's a setting that will emit whatever is in the zone, even if things are placed in the zone during play mode. This is how the vehicle challenges in story worked: anything in the zone where you built your car would be emitted to the starting point.
