The password debacle - mass update

Archive: 3 posts

Good morning maestro's!

For the last few days, I've been working on revamping my Sackulese and the Ourorbi level. I noticed a glitch before it was published, where the final boss would sometimes not appear for standard full thermo LBPK reasons - keeping the player from being able to finish the game. In my testing, it was a rare occurrence and I deemed it acceptable, seeing as there wasn't a real solution to the problem, and would require drastic changes.

After publishing, I've come to realize that it appears to happen more often than not. This is unacceptable, and I've decided to take that drastic action to fix the problem. This adventure will be cut into a 2 part-er!

The final boss will be his own level, and finally be the fight it was intended to be in the first place (it can only do ~ 25% of what I wanted originally due to thermo). Additionally, this should free up some space to add some additional monsters as originally intended in the main level.

This comes to a slight problem - I don't want people to play the final boss and reap the rewards without the adventure of getting there! I've decided to have a password entrance to the second level and have all the prizes be given after the final boss. This means that finishing the first level will only net you a password to continue the story! This is brought to my attention as possible due 100% to Scorpio's Murder Mystery level/movie. (Big thanks to him for helping me with that).

Now here comes another problem: The prizes are given on a score base (you get a prize for reaching certain score milestones at the end of the level), and if you have to start over in the second part, then all the fighting and not dying in the first would have been for naught. Also, in the same vein as the score, you can earn power-ups in the first part, and starting over at none when you had them at the end of part 1 would just be wrong. Also, automatically giving them to everyone, even if they didn't find the secret power-ups would be just as wrong. I have find a means to transfer the data of score and power-ups from the end of part 1 to the beginning of part 2.

So, I've decided to include the information of the score and power-ups into the password you receive at the end of part 1, creating a dynamic password that is specific for your play through, but also is specific enough to not just let anyone who doesn't know a password to enter a random code and get to play the finale.

And now out of the intro .

I've virtually finished the password giver, and took a picture of the microchip it's set on.

Now I've got to:
Alter part 1 and apply the password generator to the end of the level,
Delete the parts that are going into part 2 to clear up thermo,
Add some monsters to bare parts of part 1,
Transfer the finale to a new level,
Build the password input,
Connect the password input to the proper score and power-up systems,
Expand the boss fight to my expectations,
And re-balance the prize score requirements to the new score possibilities.

Additionally, I am going to update a couple of my other tracks to fix some glitches that I've found that can either cause you to win or lose, which really bothers me. Specifically, on my Forgotten Fortress and Witches Run levels.

Please let me know of any other glitches, or balancing or any little thing you remember that could improve some of my levels. I'm taking this time to make a list and go through to fix and improve my levels, but can only do things that are at my attention.

Thanks for reading! Happy creating sackfolk!

Ahh... Complex logic.

Your editing plans sound good.
Just hope they are seperate stand alone versions, not copied over the original.
Or are you planning on erasing your originals?

Questions on your password logic:
How long?
Whats the base of it (how much inventory are you dealing with)?
Can you explain why your using a random generator to deal with it?
Your microchip looks complex for something that should be simple.

Other than that can wait to play it and experiance the revamped adventure.
Just remember simple is key (sik).

I'm going to republish over the originals, so the originals won't be played anymore, only the fixed versions.

There are going to be 6 numbers that makes up the password. It's not a random password, but code that both has information to allow access into the level, and provide you the score and power ups you had at the end of the first part.

It's going to account for your score, to the most recent 500 point milestone. Meaning if you got 5679, you would start the next part with 5500. Close enough IMO. It will also relay wether you got the attack bonuses or the mobility bonus. The microchip isn't super complex, you just have to have a score sensor for each possible score carry over point.

Sorry, I'm a little blunt right now, on mobile.
