And now back to Transformers

Archive: 7 posts

As time progresses, creations become more complex.

The Optimus Prime project has been going on for awhile now...
Last I posted, I had pictures of the hinges setup.
On the other post, can be read here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=91633-Transformers-themed-levels-older-published-to-new-projects

Quick reminder picture of above link.

I talk about creating a sequencer to mimic button presses to activate movement and functions between both truck and bot.
I tried to make things as simple as I could because of the logic layers.
I ended up creating and using this as for my base functions:

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=49735&d=1424409533

Simple logic to start, Transmitters.
Each 'row' of transmitters produces an on or off signal that mimics 'transform', 'walking', and also turns on other functions.
It was designed during the 'motor and hinge' logic setup.
I couldnt have free motion motors just moving when ever they wanted.
I started hooking up the logic functions of the 'hinges, pistons and motors'.

This was some of the longest tweeks I have personally done.
I had to seperate Prime into multiple segments, It seemed easier.
First I started with the legs, shaping the logic of the motors into the movement needed.
Thats when I started using the 'Sequencer mimic'.
Once I had the first leg into the movement, I moved on to the other.
Then the waist, chest, head, left arm everything grew into the motion.
Then for awhile I stalled on his right arm, because of an extra function is has.

After weeks, and months of setting up and tweeking logic of countless motors, hinges, and pistons.
I now have the logic at the point of proper function.
I have used 'grey material' to temporarly hold logic.
It was easier to seperate when I needed to work on one area at a time.

Each 'motor' was hooked up with logic, I pushed the limits of output connections.
I had to create multiple same logic recievers to act on both both sides left, right (the grey material).

And now both layers of function:
Motor hook-up and logic input visual.

As you can see on the last picture, the 'themo used'.
I have done all my logic editing on this level and around the build I have multiple other segments.
A few arms at different stages of motor functions, some legs, chest frame.

For the overall build I tried to keep the logic simple.
Transmitters > recievers > counters > motors, pistons, and hinges.
There are a few extra peices of logic that are added for other uses.
Microchips w/selectors for headlights on/off.
Extra wheel right left movement when turning.

The next stage is now in progress, taking all the surrounding logic (grey material holding logic).
And placing it on one box.
Along with the other creations of controlinators and kart chasse.
Things are going smooth but time consuming.
Im glad to see everybody elses works of creation, just thought I'd share mine.

Stay inspired.
Keep taking things to the next level.

This looks incredible. A real labour of love obviously.

I do have a question though. Where are you going with this?

Surely creating any kind of decent enemy for Prime will kill off the rest of your thermo leaving no room for scenery? (Also I seem to recall Laidbackcat stating somewhere on these forums that the motor limit is about 100)

Or is it going to be a single player 'obstacle course' type. In which case why spend hours on Prime's weaponry?

They're only questions, and not intended in any way to detract from this superb creation.

Good question, Where am I going with this?
The simple answer, where ever it takes me.
In the begining of the build, I would have never thought it would grow into what it has.
I guess its 'learning how, and what can I do with what I just did'.
Its like adding to a puzzle that has no boundaries.

I mention about the thermo in the last picture, I know that I can lower it by more that half. Its 6.5 lines, I know I can get it to about 2 > 3.
Its high right now, because of all the extra editing. Along with the multiple extra legs, arms, and chest frames.
There is like you mentioned, Primes weaponry... his gun.

If all goes to plan, The first level will be 'Transformers: earth bound'.
A single player mission, that happens during the first episode first generation.

If all goes as planned, during that levels contruction I will be building extras for other purposes.
And those builds will hopefully get to a point, where there will be a 2v2 at least, 3v3, it possible a 4v4.
It all depends on how how far I'm are able to push the myself.

I have 'reached limits' but I think they were about other things, to many of same objects limit.
When I was copying arms to edit. One for blueprint, one for editing.

Hopfully everything else that has to be done to Prime goes smooth, and I can start on the level.
Need new height limits for both truck and bot positions.

Might make intro level showcase demo level, to get players used to controls.
I'll see what happens.

There's no doubt in my mind that whatever you decide on doing with Prime will be something special. With a creation of this complexity it deserves a rightful place in an equally stunning level. Take your time and make it a good one Val !

Thanks man, but you know... I couldnt have done the build, without the support and help that I recieved on here.
Last year I knew nothing about 'how to multi-link motors', but with a little help... im building 9-12 point motions.
I have absolutly no problem sharing what I have learnt and problems I ran into.
I could go on with Prime and develope him, but... Im quite satisfied with him as a whole right now.
The only thing on my mind right now about this build is after all the logic is cleaned up, will it all group onto the kart chassis?
Or will I have to make him a controllable item?
But that is yet to come.

I'll post a picture of Primes 'spark' (all his logic on one cube) when cleaned up.

I thought you already had a chassis on it.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT TRY TO JUST PLACE A CHASSIS ON !

In my experience this will cause serious problems with the motors.

The best, and simplest way is to use a small piece of forcefield material, ensure you change it to 'dynamic'. Place the kart chassis on that, then glue it to Prime. This seems to bypass any glitches when making custom karts.

Just my experience as I say, but having spent hours fixing broken custom karts, sorting out hitbox issues, motors etc, I found this workaround and thought it best to let you know.

I did have the chasse on it in the begining during test runs.
While I was first developing the truck and bot as two seperate pieces.
But then I removed it to develope the transformation inbetween.
Instead of having 2 seperate kart forms, I will have 1 'kart' with both forms and the transformation between.

Chassis on forcefield, already shaped into size need.
Just worried about the amount of everything 'now' grouped on the chasse/forcefield.
But thats to come.
Im pretty sure it will all come together in the end.

And yes your right:
'Use seperate chasse on force field material (shaped) for base when creating karts'.
