Sacksby Studios

Archive: 5 posts

My second creation whilst LBPCentral was on sabbatical.

This is Sacksby Studios, the backlot of movie sets are still standing for you to race through, I'm sure you'll recognise them.

This level sees you in FIVE different custom karts as you race around, each themed to the area you're in. Take a ride on a broomstick, a minecart, pirate ship, the Speeder and the Walker from Star Wars. Each kart has fully customised handling and all are available to win, though you must finish in 1st place to win the Star Wars Walker (seems only fair as it took many hours to build).

Finally got to play this last night!

It was very cool. As I mentioned in my review, my favorite part was the boats. Not sure why, but if I had to name something, then, it felt very natural, and the scenery came together even better than the other sections. The Endor part was cool, right before the AT-walker. The bounce pads were tough to get to, and rewarding, however it would have been cool if they had the speed bikes for that section.

I liked the special weapons for the different sections, but there was some inconsistency. Sometimes I could fire 10 times or more, and sometimes it would only let me fire once. Sometimes it seemed like the AI spammed 50 shots in a row on the boats. I think it would have been useful to have a couple second cooldown on the weapon fire, to limit their spamming.

Just curious, but why were there only 4 racers? Was there too much with the constant kart swapping for more?

I have to say, the HP section was my least favorite, probably because of the visible bridge. If you had made it out of force field, and lined it with floating candles to show the way, it would have given more of a sense of flying. Also, a special weapon for that section could have been a magic bolt straight rocket "stupify" that doesn't kill, but stuns. On another note, this is the best 'witches broom' I've seen on LBPK.

I would love to see a full track for any of those sections. Fully fleshed out, they would all be incredible.

Yes, restricted to 4 players due to switching, correct. You're the weapons guru and I definitely could've used your help stopping the AI pirates spamming! They should be, as you are, limited to 10 shots within that area.

I have an battle arena partially built for the 'quidditch' area. Also the pirates area, with 'floating' chest weapon pickups both in progress.

I've no idea why, but I've never built a battle arena and getting the balance right is much more difficult than anticipated.

Will throw a couple if WIP pics up soon.

In the meantime any thoughts/suggestions for either area is appreciated. Already noted the 'stupify' weapon, like that idea.
