DLTI In Progress

Archive: 3 posts

Since having a topic like this was very helpful in creating Bad House Survival (which sadly only functions properly in LBP2), I thought I'd share some info about my current project! Right now I am working on....

DON'T LET THEM IN

DLTI is the first in potentially a new series of horror platformers, similar to Close Your Eyes, but less world-endy. Also not in a cave. Or science lab. Though there is a science bunker, but it's not ultra high-tech. HERE, HAVE A BETA SCREENSHOT!

DLTI is different from CYE, and many of my other levels, in that the Scoreboard requires no challenge to get to, and you can exit the level at any time. It'll just be sitting there in the open. Your score is determined by how much of the story you get through, and whether or not you can defeat the Sanshi. (A Beta image of the first Sanshi is pictured above.)

There are three, and ONLY three creatures in the entire level, but each is programmed differently. The first is repelled by light, meaning you have to keep the generator running, conserve flashlight power, and keep the floodlights from shutting off. The second is attracted to sound, and many light-producing objects such as alarms TV's and Computers create light, but also noises. So you have to turn those off.

The third creature is a bit of a surprise, since it goes straight for the player, and you have to run or hide. You cannot conventionally defeat any of the monsters, just repel or stun them. However, if you manage to complete the storyline by assembling special devices, you can enter their lair and destroy them for good.

I'm still working on programming the creatures properly (it's tough!), and the bunker needs more interactivity, like locked doors if there is no power, but a way to get around them so you're not trapped. Also it needs a few more triggers, and some overall-story logic so the phone will work properly. I'd say right now I'm at 30% done due to all the painful logic work remaining. XD

I really, really enjoyed Close Your Eyes (I think that's what it was called), so I'm quite excited for this.2015-02-21 17:09:00
