[Solved] Sequencer Delay Problem

Archive: 5 posts

Hi,

im making this Puzzle Game.

And u control a little cursor that u hover over fields... (its gonna be like a grid of single fields)... and i want this fields to "glow" up a little, as an indication that u really know that u are over it...

I got it working, but there is this really annyoing delay with the sequencer that makes the effect kinda useless, since if u go over the field with full cursor speed it shows up, when u allready are, nearly over it...

Since i cant explain it much better i uploaded a small video showing the problem, its only a minute and it shows the problem with and without logics...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7jDaNGvPHw&list=UUJKOr6aBKISekrLF8vPmfNw

[Theres a Tag on the Cursor. And an Impact Sensor on the Field that starts the Sequencer, the Batteries activate the Fields Colour. The Inverted Impact Sensor stops the Sequencer]

I had this delay Problem with other things, but there i was able to somehow cover it up...

What i want is:

When u go over a field with the cursor it should have the effect going that it turns to green in a gradient way and than back into white (also gradient) ... and that exactly what i got with those batteries in the sequencer... they are both relevant to the seq and one is inverted and it works... but theres this delay going... as u can see... and it should start immediately... it seems to takes nearly 0.5 Sec to start.

... and here... i really tried different things... the opacity tweaker cant really do much... since it allways starts from 0%. So should i make it with timers? Or what possibilities can u think of?

I wouldnt ask for help for every little fart... but since i allready tried for quite some time, i really could need some help! I really thought the Sequencer would be the most effective way for this kinda stuff... maybe i forgot how to fix this starting delay... even with sticker-animation i got this problem...

(Also: I want to keep it the way, that theres a tag on the cursor and if that tag hits the field, it activates, because its the most precise way, it has to be precise... its allready impossible to make things pixel percise but atleast i want it as good as possible)

Thx for help.

0.5?... Umm... Is the opacity tweakers fade time 0.5 or it's a simple coincidence?
Have you tried lowering both on and off sticker panel's brightness to 50%.

Well, this could be something. Just putting the opacity to 50% when on.

But seriously the Sequencer allways has a slight delay, it doesnt start right away. Maybe 0.2 - 0.3 sec. Opacity Tweakers on the Seq. bug out somehow.

Gonna try a few things out and report back.

I had a play with it and here on PS3, there shouldn't be a significant delay on the sequencers. I even tried with timers and it turned out that are the sticker panel itself when set to 100% brightness that take quite a lot of time to swap between the set colors.
If you intend to keep full brightness you might consider the use of two blocks of sticker panel that overlap, and use either two opacity tweakers on each, set to strength and one of them reversed so when one block appears the other disappear, or you could set one on the white panel, and set it to make it disappear so it slowly reveals the green behind. Setting the blocks one in front of the other might be easier with the new "position in layer" feature of materials.
Hope this will help.

Yeah thx u really helped me, also im very ashamed, cause it turned out i didnt tweak the opacity tweaker, that was the reason for the delay. It had a fade time of 0.5 sec. I thought it doesnt affect the fade in, only the fade out. Omg.

But thx for the tip i also needed that.

Sometimes u just oversee some little detail. Solved.
