Follower/Stabalizer (why?)

Archive: 6 posts

I've just been playing around with the create mode to familiarise myself with some of the new additions for when I actually do begin to create in some far of glitch-free (ish) future. I thought I'd find out what the Followers stabalizer does and all it seems to do is fix a huge, unworkable problem with the Follower when it's not set to stabalize: it hops around sporadically and never settles on sackboy. With it stabalized, all it does is what the Follower used to do but now is broken. So why have they added stabalize instead of just making that the default setting, and instead added another setting called 'pointlessly hopping sporadically'?2014-12-16 02:31:00

So I just tested it, and I believe there is a way to use this to make something spin around something else. Like, have an orbit around something.

I changed the Minimum Detection Range and the Maximum to have a donut around the player. When I ran, while the follower was above me (With stabilizer off); when I stopped, the follower kept spinning around me, like an orbit.

This may be a bug entirely, a bugged feature, or possibly a feature we don't fully understand how to use.

It seems too random to be a feature. I'd assumed the stabalize setting was to make the follower lock onto sackboy perfectly with zero drift, but it seems to just make the follower behave normally. If it WAS a feature, wouldn't it be the alternative setting rather than stabalize?

It could be a case where some of the options in the menus are glitched. Like how the tags were off-colored or how some options repeated themselves. But if it was the drift, then that would make the option redundant since they might as well and make that a default thing, not a setting, just something the follower does due to programming.

Although, IF the stabilizer was to stay locked onto the player, I would imagine that it would gray out the speeds and acceleration, or set them to some stabilizer-only speed 'infinity'. I don't know why there is that drift, but I would guess it is due to the speed and acceleration needing to communicate with the game.

Also: When messing with the setting, I placed it on a block of cardboard that was about 5x as large as Sackboy, and had it follow him with Stabilizer on. That was a very creepy box.

Kinda like the Stabilize circuit board setting, it boggles my mind the setting wasn't present in LBP2 and isn't the default setting in LBP3. As for followers, I will say it makes cameras on followers feel much more viable and natural to me.2014-12-16 17:54:00

I reckon it is another ******ing bug - normal followers always have some lag. Surely the stabiliser would match the target tag with one-to-one precision. Either way I am getting fed up with the create bugs and inconsistencies and I'm pretty tolerant most of the time. What a waste of money and a huge disappointment. If the next update addresses the issues I'm having in create then I'll curb my rage.2014-12-18 02:10:00
