Littlebigplanet 3 vs Littlebigplanet 2

Archive: 18 posts

Hey guys! As you know LBP3 has been out for a few weeks, and after all this time we've spent playing it, I want to know how it stacks up to LBP2. You can do this in categories like story, create mode, online, glitches, etc. Littlebigplanet 3 is a great game, but how does it compare to its amazing predecessor, Littlebigplanet 2? 2014-12-14 21:54:00

Story- I enjoyed LBP3's story by leaps and bounds over 2. I still think that 1 and Vita have the best stories, with Vita being the best by FAR. Vita is basically the Empire Strikes Back of LBP.

Create- LBP3 is like some odd mash up of LBP2 and LBPSP. It has so much stuff you can do, it is nearly limitless, but the gargantuan amound of bugs makes create a hard pill to swallow. It just feels unfinished, but what is there easily trumps 2.

Online- Never worked, still don't work.

Glitches- See LBPSP

I give it an 8.5/10

#1- LBPVita
#2- LBP3
#3- LBP1
#4- LBP2
#5- LBPSP

I'll cut my opinion short and also stay on subject by only comparing LBP3 to LBP2.. *mew

LBP3 has better createmode for obvious reasons.

LBP2 IMO had better storymode of these 2 games. LBP2 had more minigames and somehow bit better story with characters that had more charm & personality, Newton being the only exception from LBP3.

LBP3 does indeed have many bugs & problems right now... But to me it's not something to judge it much on for the first couple months.

LBP3 has the biggest disadvantage having to try and top lbp2. 2 changed so much because there was so much to change. with 3 excluding glitches and stuff their isnt as much added and the stuff they did add is kinda cool but at the same time i dont find half of the tools useful (yet). the story mode was good lbp2 was better imo because it felt important. the hub levels make things feel disconnected if that makes sense. ofcourse id take lbp3 any day over 2, lbp2 did alot of things and did them better

create mode awesome story good the online has some issues and thats one of the factors holding back the community from making levels unlike lbp2s launch which had loads of community levels the very first week

Create Mode - 50 points
Story Mode - 20 points
Online - 30 points
Glitches - Up to -50 points
Performance - Up to 20 extra credit points

LittleBigPlanet 2:
Create Mode - 40 points: Create mode has kept me occupied since release allowing me to create many things. However, the amount of limitations to things really brings down the possibilites. So -10 points for that.

Story Mode - 10 points: Story mode was utterly a drag on for me. I really did not like it. I just felt that the story wasn't there. And the characters just had no character. My favorite character was Negativitron lol. So -10 points for that.

Online - 30 points: The online on LBP2 was just as functional as it was on LBP1. That I really liked. Very nice search systems and stable online. Full score for this.

Glitches - -20 points: There were many glitches in LBP2 that messed up the game. However, a ton of them were actually helpful or harmless glitches. But LBP2 loses 20 points for many data-losing glitches that were never fixed.

Performance - +10 points: The performance in LBP2 when you are not a creator is great. But as you go on to the bigger, more massive projects, you will end up lagging and you will freeze to no end. Making your level also unplayable to your customers(players). I have experienced this myself.

Total Score: 76

LittleBigPlanet 3As of now)
Create Mode - 45 points: I think the create mode is excellent. It adds so many possiblities. However, the inability to use the Organizertron, Blaster Handle, and Sackpocket as a Sackbot just killed it for me as a bot creator. So -5 points for that.

Story Mode - 20 points: I really enjoyed the story mode. As the characters were fully voiced and every level brings something new. And then you get tons of items from it. Full score for this.

Online - 5 points: The online is barely functional. It has absolutely no search system. It's just a complete and utter fail. And then you constantly disconnect. So -25 points for that.

Glitches - -50 points: Oh lawwd where do I start... At release and a month from it, 85% of DLC is lost. The Profile Unlock for LBP2 is not functioning right as there is tons of missing content. There are an insane amount of data-losing glitches that can make your data go "poof" in the next second. Costumes and stickers are sometimes glitched. Create mode is insanely glitches. And Oddsock refuses to wear his costume too much. So it lost all of the 50 points worth for that. Etc, etc, etc, etc...

Perfomance - +5 points: The performance is barely there. Online just doesn't work at all. And there are waaay to many shut-offs and disconnects and crashes and yadayadayada. It gets 5 points for merely being functional during Story Mode.

Pity Points - +15 points

Total Score: 40

LBP3 is buggy right now, but LBP2 is dead. Bugs can be fixed, but not the H4H thing or the cool pages. That, and LBP3 has a lot of create features, unlike LBP2.2014-12-15 20:35:00

Sorry for the late replay! Lots of interesting responses. From what I've seen of you guy's posts, LBP3 has better features like story and create mode, but it's ruined by the bugs. I hope Sumo can get these bugs fixed as quickly as possible, so we can all have a blast on LBP3!

I wouldn't say LBP2 is dead. There are still ways to find good levels like hubs or MM picks. You can also ignore the H4H people. However I agree that H4H and copied levels did mess up LBP2.

Logic blows LBP2 out of the water, both for the new sensors and tweaks on older Logic. Storyline came off as more of a typical platforming game than anything to me though, I'm starting to miss LBP1's heavier use of phyiscs-based platforms over movers. I guess it just felt more natural and also unique back then. Still think LBP3 is the best release so far and glitches will get fixed in time.2014-12-16 01:00:00

I kind of wish LBP3 added more though. LBP2 added so many new features and completely changed the LBP formula. LBP3 just adds on to what lbp2 already created.2014-12-16 01:36:00

There's always gonna be something special with the previous LBP games as they were made by the original creators, Media Molecule. I just watched an old behind the scenes video on Media Molecule and they apparently had a guy playing the story levels hundreds of times over and over just to ensure a bug-free experience. Sumo knew what they were releasing. The let-down to the fans is what ruined LBP3 the most.2014-12-16 06:21:00

Releasing a buggy game isnt betrayal. Its a dev team taking a huge game and working on a next gen version if it without the years of experience creating it. You guys are taking this to seriously

LBP3 is not next gen. It was written for the PS3 and then got high res graphic updates for the PS4. I hope LBP4 will be PS4 only and then it can be called next gen.

Vita's story was good but since LBP Vita does not support the Playstation TV I have to knock points off.

I honestly don't know what you could ask more for. To me, when I take into account everything that's new (AND improved from LBP2, like the followers who can ACTUALLY follow and not just lag behind) I feel like this is an actual and true sequel and not just LBP2 2.0. I don't feel like they did like DICE is doing with BattleField and re-releasing the same game over and over again just tweaked.

I mostly agree. To me we got close to almost everything we needed... There's room for little more sure, but imo much else is not crazy important... Well except 1 thing imo. only big thing I think imo we really need now not counting bug fixes, is that we need a better custom character creation system of some sort for the characters for our levels... costumes are ok... but still are seriously limited and i see much room and many options for improvement in the possibilites, one example would be a basic different body type option for each character type which is common in MMO RPGs, anyways The lack of higher quality story character creation options for our levels is the only real lacking aspect imo at this time. *mew

The materials/objects/decorations/etc you get from the Story mode in LBP3 are amazing. It feels like an enormous amount, more than either previous game. That's one of my favorite things in LBP3 so far- the sheer amount of prizes they throw at you. It feels like the content designers went above and beyond this time around.2014-12-16 18:19:00

we need a better custom character creation system of some sort for the characters for our levels.

I can picture it in my mind. Hovering the Popit Cursor over the limbs, selecting one and just resizing them like you do with materials. Kinda like inflating balloons lol. Animations would still be compatible, too.
