how do i make objects keep momentum with followers?

Archive: 7 posts

i am using followers to move an object back and forth across a level. however i want them to keep their momentum and weight when the tag they are following is turned off, so instead of stopping in place like they currently do. i want them to keep going, kinda like the effect if you launched them out of a cannon2014-12-13 23:40:00

You have to wire into the on/off port and just shut it off. Then it'll keep going as well as fall. That's one way, but there are others....2014-12-13 23:53:00

I'm not sure about this, but if you power the follower with a tag sensor for the same tag it follows when the tag turns off so to does the follower and normal physics should return to the object.

Ha ha! Smasher is a faster typer than me.

the problem i'm having is when the tag turns off the object just stops in midair then falls to the ground, as if it were not just moving and just dropping2014-12-14 00:18:00

Well I guess if it's moving really slow it would do that. It's kind of hard to recommend a solution without knowing more details of what your trying to do. If it was me I'd use another follower or a mover and switch between the two accordingly.2014-12-14 00:22:00

i'm trying to make a magnet powerup, the powerup itself has 2 tags that activate. one for attract and one for repel, the object i'm using for testing is a pinball. on the pinball i have 2 remote tag sensors hooked up to followers that follow the tags when activated. they work fine when activating. problem is when i let go of the button when the followers turn off, they just drop to the ground and do not keep their momentum from when they were moving. i would like to keep the momentum so you could arc something while repelling it. kinda like a cannon of some kind but its not working as i planned. sorry for being terrible at explaining this

Like say if I used an old fashion position launcher. I want it to work like that

Usually when I need something like this, simply making sure the acceleration setting is not too high does the trick (deceleration sometimes as well if doing something similar with movers,80-90% is what I usually use). Just experiment with it and you'll find the right setting for you.2014-12-14 06:55:00
