Tutorials to making pinball tables?

Archive: 13 posts

Really would love any links anyone has for creating pinball tables in LBP 2 or 3. Been searching for nearly 2 hours and all I can find is info on LBP1 tables that is way outdated to the newer tools and logic.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know of any tutorials, but if you have any questions, I did a rather successful pinball level in LBP2. 2014-12-13 23:59:00

Have been thinking it out myself. I just didn't want to re-invent the wheel if I didn't have to. However in LBP 2 I had a bunch of pinball related objects, habitrails etc... and none of them seem to have transferred into 3 so I'm going to put the idea aside anyway. At least until all the previous content is finally working in 3.

Mostly I'm curious how to build ramps, after playing with it I'm guessing there's no good way other than using in out movers and sensors. It also looks like some tables use a steeper camera angle then you can normally get from a game camera.

Space Escape was one of the first tables I tried and it's very cool. I'll have to go look for Smashers planet to see what he has.

Thanks guys.

So happy you enjoyed my table!! It was quite an adventure to put together and getting the feel just right. Most correct that my ramp at least is timed movers when sensors are hit just right. I have 3 in a row at descending angles that allow him to move "up the ramp" and trip the mover in the sackbot. Keep us posted and good luck!

Smashers is a very awesome table and a definite must play.

I made a LBP.me list a couple of years ago of great Pinball tables in LBP2. There are 27 tables in it (when LBP.me decides to display them all). Check it out when you get the chance. Pinball List (https://lbp.me/t/e0c2)2014-12-17 12:42:00

Ha! Your list is actually how I found his Space Pinball! Your playlist was one of the first things I found while hunting for pinball tutorials so I queued it (although it certainly didn't give me 27 tables for some reason...).

About what I figured on the ramps. Although I'm going to try to set it up with an advanced in out-mover controlled by a timer and have the ramp provide the timer with the analog % of ramp height at any given point... Just not sure what the best way to get that analog signal to the timer is.

What's Smashers table called?

Neat! Glad my list is getting some use. With this new LBP.me, sometimes it shows the page turners but more often than not it does not. Just click on that little bell and queue the whole list up That'll keep you busy. My personal favorite by the way is Jdubs' Space Escape. I can't tell you exactly how many times I played that one, but it's in the hundreds.
gonflette is another one who makes superb tables. check him out for inspiration as well.

That's kinda funny because all I have been making pinball tables, I think they are uber fun. I'm working on a Winter themed one right now but it will take a few weeks. I could help you with anything you need to know. Last night a made a cool system that allows the user to switch to different types or colors of pinballs even. If you're wondering what's the magic formula for the bumpers, the rotation speed needs to be set at 0.3 and have a 45 degree turn using wobble bolts. For the pinball itself, I have found that (believe it or not) a giant collectabell works the best. As for the bumpers, you can use impact sensors or tag sensors, on the ball itself, put a micro chip on it with a green tag and an orange sensor connected to a destroy tag. On the bottom right under the bumpers, place your orange tags. To launch the ball, make a small piece of sticker material under where your ball spawns out of the emitter and have a force chip on it connected to the X output on your controlanator. Getting the ball to launch smoothly without breaking is the hard part, you will have to tune it. Hope this helps. If you want you can try one of my maps or beta test my new one. If you're on a PS3 you can join me and I can show you all the inner workings2014-12-17 23:08:00
