Help with pathfollower

Archive: 7 posts

I'm about to finish my new level. But I'm not familiar with pathfollower. I draw a path from a point to another. I put a follower motor on it, linked to an object. I set the motor to forward. The problem is that the object ends at the end of the path. I want that the object reappears at the beginning of the path and follow again the path, continuously.
I hope I am understandable.
Any idea how to do this?

You need to set the flipper type. If you press right on the flipper control once, it will start at the beginning, go towards the end, and disappear, and start at the beginning again. It should show an arrow pointing to the left in the menu, I believe. If you use the other flipper type (arrow pointing right), it will start at the end, and go backwards towards the beginning, disappearing and starting at the end again.

You can also use the flipper type to simulate loops with the pathfinder, if you put the end and the beginning on top of each other.

Hope that's what you mean.

Couple of extra tips to note in using path followers.

Fences are on default paths! This means you can simply place a path follower motor on a 'fence path' and the object you attach will run the length of that fence. If you have no branches on your track this can mean the length of the entire course. Useful for creating floating objects above the track.

Paths can be vertical too! Set your start point on the ground or up in the air and use the up/down adjustment to go vertically to create the path, attach your motor and your object, so now you have a vertically moving object that can also move left and right, if you adjust the path points to do this, without the need for a double piston set up.

Yes, and I was wondering if it is possible to make a loop with this. Because if you press square on the pass, you can set it to " make the AI follow the path ". Then if you set the kart on autopilot during the path, it might work.
Did you already try that?

No, never tried it. Very interested to hear your results.
