Unbreakable Pistons
Archive: 14 posts
We need unbreakable pistons that can't bend in LBP3. Maybe keep them as they are but at least add a unbreakable option so you don't need to use other logic for advanced movements. I have always liked the simplicity using pistons but they tend to break pretty often or they just can't hold up the weight. The strength option that we have doesn't make them strong enough. | 2014-12-13 09:59:00 Author: blacksackman Posts: 234 |
Its usually not a case of the piston isn't strong enough, its the thing its connected to isn't heavy enough. We can fix this now however, by using a Physics Tweaker and changing the weight : ) I assume you're talking about something on a piston which is then also on a piston itself? | 2014-12-13 10:54:00 Author: Hallm3 Posts: 252 |

The Physics Tweaker doesn't prevent the piston from glitching. If you have worked with pistons before you should know that they sometimes bend left and right when you move the object fast. It doesn't matter how small or big the object it is because the piston will not hold where it is suppose to. That case is fairly known, but it can be supported with invisible walls. I hoped for a change in the piston itself, but I guess the new logic can assist it nowadays. | 2014-12-13 11:27:00 Author: blacksackman Posts: 234 |

I've found it's especially a pain when using pistons as shocks for vehicles, They bend or break when they shouldn't. I never thought of using invisible material to brace them, I'll remember to experiment with it. | 2014-12-13 17:41:00 Author: Metalzoic Posts: 43 |
i was hoping to use bendy rails to create a linear path for timed platforming bits, but i havent tried it yet. ive been using tags/followers or simple movers on a frictionless thin backing, cause I dislike pistons so much. What? Can bendy rails replace pistons for simple directional movement? Also i guess its easier to capture objects that are unglued and dont have a bunch of glue/piston connections? Unless 'what' is refering to the 160 create bug? ... any thoughts? | 2014-12-13 18:01:00 Author: rrad10n Posts: 27 |
Sorry I meant to just quote the 160hr bug... what is that? | 2014-12-13 18:54:00 Author: Metalzoic Posts: 43 |
What if you used two pistons, one either end? One pushing while the other is pulling and visa versa. Wouldn't that add extra strength and support? | 2014-12-16 10:43:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
I agree with this suggestion. Nobody actually intends for their pistons to break, so why does it happen?I still have the same issue with my Puyo Puyo level, and I have two pistons for added strength but they still break anyway sometimes. | 2014-12-16 13:07:00 Author: ILoveI6v6I Posts: 44 |

It maybe would but it would also be incredibly hard to synchronize both pistons and the pistons will not like being forced by another piston. | 2014-12-16 18:13:00 Author: blacksackman Posts: 234 |

i agree to this. i have that issue sometimes. | 2014-12-17 11:48:00 Author: ForcesWerwolf Posts: 475 |
I had to stop using pistons, it was just too many issues. A gyroscope with a move chip works a million times better, but is a little more of a hassle to build each time. Have you ever thought about using rails instead? I have't had any problems with them. | 2014-12-17 23:13:00 Author: Mighty Mac Posts: 45 |
