Top down Sackbot, Avoiding walls / following tags

Making a top down stealth level. I have Sackbot guards. I need them to patrol and then chase the player when he is seen. Right now I have the guards following the player's (another sackbot) tag when he is seen. And I have him going from one tag to another for a patrol route. He runs into walls going to the tags. So I set up some "corner" tags for him to go to when he impacts the walls. It works well when there is one corner tag and one wall, but when there is more than one he gets confused.

I have seen other threads similar to this saying to have the player emit "bread crumb" tags for the guard to follow, but I want the guard to lose the player at some point, and that won't help him in patrol mode. I also don't think a bendy rail will help since I want him to go off the path and back on / go to different paths.

How do I make the bot pick the right path to get to the tag I want him to?

I'm making an MGS1 remake right now, same concept. I actually started on the guard AI yesterday. I'm going to work on this very thing in a few hours after I take my final exam. I'll let you know how it goes.2014-12-12 16:29:00

Thats what I am making too! I got the guards vision working pretty good right now. Guards are only alerted when they see Snake, but they can't see him through walls. I am proud of that. Let me know if you want to compare notes!2014-12-12 16:31:00
