I have finally completed the introduction to my new series of levels. I'm a huge Bioshock fan, and have always wanted to make a Bioshock themed LittleBigPlanet level. I loved the one Nathan900 did in the original LittleBigPlanet, but I believe I have gone a little bit further thanks to the new tools in LBP3. I plan on having a full set of levels all themed around major parts of the Bioshock game including Arcadia, Fort Frolic, Hephaestus, and ending up at Andrew (Sock) Ryan's Tower for an epic finale!

WARNING:

Currently there is a problem with the "Kashmir Restraunt" level included in my demo, it does appear to have a memory leak in a section after the plane crashes into the tubes. If you happen to have your framerates drop (it will get super slow), then respawning will fix the issue. I've gone back and tried to fix this countless times but there's nothing I can do, Sumo Digital just made a broken buggy game and we'll have to hope for a patch. If I add/delete anything to this level, the level will permanently be 100% laggy no matter what.

Awesome, I love all things Bioshock. When you come to craft Arcadia would you kindly include the farmer's market, you could have some real fun with the bee hives!2014-12-12 02:37:00

Aaah good suggestion, almost forgot the all-important bee plasmid This intro took me a lot of work, and is the first major project I've done in a while, looking forward to getting to do the more in-depth platformer-centric levels in this series of levels, these first two are a mix of platforming and cinematics.

Well, if you ever want any help shoot me a friend request. Can't say I'm any good at gameplay but I can make things look pretty.2014-12-12 02:52:00

haha thanks for the offer, I'll let you know if I need help decorating. There's so much in the world of Rapture that it's easy for even a die hard fan like myself to miss something critical

if only the thermometer was forgiving enough :/ Shame the PS4 version is so limited by the PS3 version.. I was hoping the power of the PS4 would allow us to do anything we wanted

If you're into Bioshock I suggest looking at some Bioshock Infinite pictures. With the addition of the new rail hook, you can make Bioshock Infinite in LBP3...2014-12-12 05:45:00

haha yup I saw. Though I personally am a much bigger fan of the Rapture themed games. It's a far more interesting atmosphere in my opinion.

I played this yesterday but couldn't progress after getting the electro plasmid. I got the plasmid but didn't know what to do with it from there. I tried it by the electrified tube and kept dying and couldn't see any obvious switches or things to use it on.

What did I miss?

Not quite sure how you had an issue here. The plasmid is a sack-pocket item. You have to equip it. When you equip it, press L1 to activate it and a timer will appear showing you how much time you have to be invulnerable to electricity. You should be able to jump through the tube entrance with this electrical ability.

The dialogue that appears should have explained this pretty well.

Problem there was sometimes the invulnerability just didn't work. The timer would appear but you would still die. Took me a couple of tries on that door. As for my feedback, your plane crash scene was missing fire upon the water. Loved the music as you descended into the city but though it would sound extra creepy if you went into the world settings and put a slight echo on it.

Also, was playing through Fort Frolic, in the actual game, lets just say LBP's licensed music... cough... Waltz of the flowers... cough... will match up with the original quite nicely.

Hehe yes I realized waltz of the flowers was in the game. The entire last stage of LBP3 was just screaming out "Bioshock" lol. I mean cmon! They gave us those masks! And all the materials I need!

as for the fire, that was more of a cosmetic choice. I tried the fire bit out in the water near the plane crash, and didn't like how it looked.

And as for the electro-bolt not working, the only time I've had it not work is when you immediately jump into water/or climb a ladder directly after using the power. I have never had it not work when jumping through the door. Can you please share a video of this issue? I've tested it for the past 3 weeks and haven't been able to reproduce this problem.

The only known problem right now is the stupid lag that keeps happening in that tall section after the tubes. And unfortunately there's nothing I can do to fix it. Adding or Removing ANYTHING from that second level just breaks it...

That dynamic thermometer option just doesn't work at the moment, and my future levels will not be using it.

Really liked this, but did have (seemingly) unnecessary trouble with one section where you have to swim through the electrified water, to then lower the water level.

I couldn't really tell why I was dying here, I though it was because I was touching the metal walls, and or not timing something right. I eventually got through it, but still don't know how the danger in that section was actually working.

The water is set to electrocute you every 8 seconds. You have to jump in as soon as the water is safe again. It was supposed to be an homage to Bioshock when you electrocute the water.

I kind of got that it was electrified, and did think about this mechanic in Bioshock, but there was nothing on the screen that I could see that that showed this cycle, a dangling wire swinging and touching the metal beam, or a sound effect of somethig shorting out and the starting up again would help quite a bit.2014-12-13 20:21:00

Yeah that's a good point. I could always just show the timer. Honestly I'm afraid to even open the editor again simply because of how broken the create mode is in this game. I've tried editing tiny things like adding a camera to a certain area, and the level suddenly had a permanent lag to it that couldn't be fixed no matter what I deleted. I'm afraid any criticisms I receive from this level can't be fixed and I'll have to just learn from with my future Biosock levels :/

Hopefully Sumo addresses these issues in a patch, but it's doubtful

here's my feedback. Don't call this a "Demo." Man, maybe part 1 or something but this is too epic and good length to be considered a demo. Played it last night and was expecting you know, maybe 2-3 minutes. Geez, this was awesome. From the beginning starting just like the real game with the plane in the water and the elevator ride? Fuhget about it, was EPIC. I lagged a little but thought it may have been my connection, it didn't last long. Loved the visuals and the gameplay was nice.
My gripe with it was the powerup. I didn't get it. I have to hit it at just the right time to disable the electric? Often times my timing was off and I was fried. Maybe if it shot a ball of lighting out or something, an actual projectile that made contact with whatever surface was electric and THEN it disabled. It could come back in a few seconds but at least you wouldn't have to jump at it and then hit "R1." It took me about 10 tries to disable the first electric field (entrance to tube) and I dang near just quit.
The second quibble I had was with the second power-up. First, it doesn't even show in my sackpocket. So I died, and had to go back to get the shooter. Second, What the hell man? Those splicers gave me like no time to do anything. It was kill one, die, respawn, run back to the power-up, rinse and repeat. While up top, I can shoot multiple times but when I got on the bottom I could only shoot one? I don't get it. Was L2 the reload? It didn't work.

Other than that, freaking amazing! I can't wait to see the whole series. Keep on a trucking!

Thanks for the feedback biorogue. Glad to hear the lag didn't spoil the experience. Though I'm a little concerned that you too experienced issues with the Electro-Bolt plasmid. I'm curious whether or not this is just not functioning properly for other players, because it works flawlessly for me. The idea is when activated, the electrobolt makes you invulnerable to electricity, allowing you to land on electric platforms and proceed.

Also, the second power up WAS supposed to be a sackpocket item, however, when I tried to change it, the entire level started to lag and I had to load a backup file just to get the lag to go away. I can try again to fix this.

As for the gun not firing a lot down below, that's entirely due to the game's lag. I noticed this issue and apparently if the game gets too laggy, the emitter no longer works... I really hope Sumo patches this because it's so incredibly frustrating.

But yeah, thanks for the advice! I'll try to fix it this week and get those powers working properly, but I can't promise anything :/ I certainly will have these things working properly for my future Biosock levels!
