Most Underused Theme?

Archive: 18 posts

There are many different themes to create a level on but what's the most special one? What is the least used theme? I'm planning to make an unique level but I need a good theme. I will adjust the idea after the theme so it can be anything really.2014-12-10 07:52:00

Are you talking about the backgrounds? Because it all really depends on what kind of level you're making.2014-12-10 08:12:00

I am talking about background and materials, the whole level basically.

I'm making some sort of hybrid-platformer.

Hybrid platformer, huh? If you mean two different themes in one level, I'll shoot a quick suggestion your way. It may not be helpful but I've been wrong before.

Try using two different themes that are strikingly different from each other, but somehow are loosely connected. For example, maybe a volcano that has ice instead of lava.

Or you could just integrate time manipulation into your level, because that is always cool.

Western doesn't seem to get the love it deserves in my opinion. There's some really good levels already done, so it's possible people avoid it, however ever since LBP1 ended, The Canyons theme seems to have been lost I think there's plenty of things that can be done with Western, seeing as there's plenty of materials, stickers, and even, if needed, premade objects that suit the theme.... I don't know, maybe there's a good reason, but we all love a good, well decorated Canyon 2014-12-12 00:22:00

Then again... you don't have to use a background at all. You can make your own. 2014-12-12 00:30:00

I can't wait to make my time-traveling walrus platformer western RPG with ice volcanoes.

(feel free to use this idea)

Don't know about the least used theme, but I reckon my most special theme is no theme - talking about backgrounds.
To me a background can be useful for a few reasons; if I want to add extra detail that is only exclusive to the background; meaning a vegetation background theme has unique foliage that could be used to embellish my level like no other way, or the sound effects exclusive to the background. Or a background theme could be useful if I am feeling lazy about creating my own background; so I'll just add one of the presets; but that's never the case really. OR I would use one if I have added my own background and wanting to amplify the visuals; only if it corresponds well with the background I created, otherwise I'll just scratch it.
I don't know; I'm sure there's many other reasons, but my foundation on any level is just giving everything a shot, seeing what looks the best from eye sight, not by logicality/formality; the obvious.
So just give everything a go, and if a unique level is what you want, just keep going until it results into uniqueness.

Should mention that one of the options in the "World Settings" in your popit actually lets you choose which atmosphere audio you want in your level without having to use the theme that corresponds with that audio.

The ZomZoms shop background is not available, I might be able to post a level with it, but I'm not sure.2014-12-16 00:58:00

It's all of them for me. I dislike themes and still with blanks because I think it's darned silly to have a bike or a plantpot 100 times bigger than sackboy. Darned stupid and it's about time we got backgrounds that are actually scaled properly.2014-12-16 03:32:00

I was looking for a good theme for my new map, I also wanted something unique. I ended up going with a winter/ziggurat theme. My other idea I had was to do a a 60's themed map like they have in the story mode. There is plenty of stickers and objects for it but I never see anyone use them.
