Appreciating Level Design and Yourself

Archive: 3 posts

This thread is all of the place but I promise it good!

I felt compelled to write this, I was on the internet searching up gameplay design tips, more specically 2d game-design. I truly have to say that I am extremley grateful for all that all of the game designers here have to put into work for these levels that are being created. I mean never thought or even wondered how much work has to be put into these 2d platformer games or any game design at all. Always wanting more never really appreciating what is being giving or even handed to us.

I read an interesting article on Super Mario Bros 3, and I have to give credit where it is due! From how each level is designed to teach us how to play, I mean I would have never thought to put approaching goomba near the ? block, that genius it teaches the new player sub-conciousley what both of the mechanics do early on, and your probably thinking thats basic gameplay design.
I just never knew so much went into this, feel so ungrateful for not seeing this sooner.

I mean I give it to everyone who has completed a level, made a game, Everybody whose involved in game-design.
and you know what excuse my language but, F@*% what people who dont understand gaming have to say. They dont understand what goes on underneath it all, they are not the ones coming up with the ideas and seeing them manifest.
Into something that they love what may be bad to us may be a accomplishment to them. You never know
To think this goes unseen and unappreciated is ludicrous, I apologize to anyone that I subdued due to my narrow way of thinking.

I kind of went off on a tanget, but I used to laugh at the levels that i labeled BADD or UGLY, because it lacked the beautiful aesthetics of that of the Power creators.

I guess what I'm trying to say I is appreciate what you have, I honestly have no Idea how this went from level design, but I guess, As silly or cliche as this may sound or silly, or. You know what I dont care about what you guys think. I think I cared about what YOU guys want, and NEVER appreciated what was being given to me always being unsatisfied with what I had, Yeah... I was happy for the moment, but I didnt truly appreciate what was being given or already being done for me or us.

Some of us may have difficult upbrinings, some have it easier than others. Some of us care of what others think and some of us dont care at all.

You see I'm that person that cares too much, of what you think, and what they think, and what everone else has to say, but what about what I have to say. MAybe Im venting off stress or even depression.

I've gotten in my way plenty of times, I've cared so much that I begin to think to much to the point of disatisfaction, thinking my self to the point of emptyness. Not realizing that I've always had everything I need to have everything I want.

I for me I let my life become a life of everyone ones thoughts. Kind of like a melting pot. Letting my voice become silent, being scared to speak, it let being trapped. Its like trying to unlock a door with a key that wont fit, but I think I found it!

I think Ive always had though the entire time.

Yeah I know I did get stayed away, I took a lot of me to be personal, but hopefully it ties into the bigger picture , and that is appreciate any evrything you have. I admire any of everyone who has been able to accomplish any and everything positive.

Its crazy how a article that was supposed to be about gameplay design led to this.

What I admire about the community, espceially those who been here its cool that you guys, stayed true with the game and stayed with, accepting it for what it was and what its become, from using nothing but only Pistons and tags and emiters, to now having logic suite accessible available to all, amazing. who would of thought.

Yeah so now we are here, So to some this all up, Just be grateful for what you have and Love and appreciate yourself and others.

Well said
It's always better to be happy with what you have than to complain about what you don't.
