Tutorial: Making a top down sackbot with solid 8-directional movement (no twitching).

Archive: 8 posts

Hey all,

I made a video tutorial for making a top down sackbot that doesn't twitch it's little head off. It's very long, oops.

Hopefully it's helpful to some of you. Please excuse the crappy webcam quality, it's the only option I have right now.

Why 8 directional movement? It doesn't really compare to 360 degree movement. I'm not doubting you methods, just wondering as to why you would chose this movement system relative to the more fluid and dynamic approach of said.2014-12-08 19:19:00

Mainly because I haven't found a way to retain 360 rotation without the rotation blending messing up yet. With the side-view 3D movement, you can angle-ify the analog signal and tie that into a character rotation tweaker and everything works fine. With top-down it's not quite as simple, still trying to figure it out though.

Oddly enough, this gave me a bit of a eureka moment. You can do 360 top down movement with this:

I already accomplished top-down 360 movement. I just wanted to see other peoples methods. And I'm confused as to why none of you can prevent head twitching within 360 rotation. I'm also wondering why you're using the character rotation, the animation tweaker hosts the ability to do the exact same thing whilst, you know... animating.

PS. Oddsock seems to be the most reliable top-down character for animation blending.

The only point of me putting up a tutorial was in case certain parts of it were useful to anyone. I say in the tutorial that it's far from perfect and I'm still figuring stuff out.

I'm using a character rotation tweaker since it blends perfectly with animation tweakers and I can have my rotation settings in a more central location.

Honestly you're coming off as a bit rude, so forget I said anything.

I've managed to use the character animators to not have any head twitching! Method works perfect. Now if I can figure a way to disable the sackbots head from following the laws of gravity, I will be in luck. Only method I've found of doing so thusfar is using the Sackbot, Zombot or the Sleepy settings on the sackbot.

I'll be referring that issue to Sumo and asking for a patch.

Cool! Glad you mostly solved the problem.

You know... I'm just asking why you chose to use the methods you did. We all use different logic, some more efficient than others. I didn't mean to be rude, if that's what you interpreted from my post. But I got my answers.
