Video Tutorial - Point Click Cursor Menu

Archive: 5 posts

Shows an example of a cursor moved by the right control stick that is always near the player. Can change layers and have multiple commands such as Use, Talk, Take, ... Good for point and click levels.

thanks for the tutorial, I haven't finished watching the video yet, but at 4:20 you said that LBP3 doesn't have shaped tag sensors (e.g. square, rectangle) and only has circle but actually you could make a tag sensor any shape you wanted even in LBP2 by using an impact sensor that only detects a certain tag placed on an invisible hologram that is shaped like what you want to detect (square, rectangle, etc)

EDIT: I should've watched the whole video before posting -.- I just have two points to make
Firstly the bug you mentioned at 15:00 can be solved by delaying the signal by 1 tick, either by connecting it to Positional sequencer that has a 100% battery inside or connecting it to a positional 0.1s timer, but a 1 tick delay is still a problem, and i'm sure you know this since you already posted about it before in the forums, but i just wanted to make sure.

secondly 34:11 there's a little trick to help you in that sorta situation you do it by holding down the R2 button and selecting the four object one a time, it's like holding the Ctrl button in windows and selecting files one by one, and at 43:20 you could've done the same trick to select all four letters and change all of their brightness's to zero instead of having to go to each one separately.

Yes there are ways around anything but having that feature in the logic would be nice. You can also use 4 sensors set at 90 degrees turned to make a square/rectangle. Luckily in my example I was using a circle so the circle radius works perfectly. I mentioned the square wish to make you think about the cursor design and if you did not go with a circle you may need to change the logic up a bit such as you mentioned use a different method to get the precise tag coverage detection. That part should make more sense when you get to the part of the video where I set the tag sensor.

I hope you don't mind me giving you a little advise for future videos: If you watch ComphermC tutorials, you'll see that a lot of the time he uses the black background. I would also build a platform to work on that is well above the floor so that everything is clear with no distractions. It also helps to pick a poppit colour with a nice stark contrast so that people can easily see what you are doing when you go through the menus. Black is corny but excellent for this purpose. Here, you are using a white background and white cursor with a light blue poppit.

Here's a good example of what I mean. There are no distractions and it's clear and easy to see:

Great tutorial though!
