I had a complete headache after watching it.

I believe the mom was the one you see in the city, and the one that kills Hud is the baby.

I love the little hidden messages and stuff in cloverfield. One thing that's awesome about Cloverfield is knowing what happened. Oh, and I loved the camera!

Oh yeah, and Beth from Cloverfield is also Amata from FO3.

People say there may be more than one monster. Theres the crawling one, the one that kills Hudd, and the one 9that may not even be a monster) that jumps on the bridge after its knocked down by the massive tail

No, there is only one monster that attacks the city, and thats Clover, the baby. You never see mommy or daddy.

And also, J.J. Abrams is one for the secrets. His TV shows and movies have many secrets and stories that you won't find out without investigation. Like this one: Slusho Website (http://www.slusho.jp) They made an entire site, and it all ties in with the movie. And then theres this little video:

YouTube - Cloverfield Monster Attacks Tagruato Oil Rig

That shows that there was a 'dark smear in the ocean' which they think is oil. But they don't know that it is actually the monster. Tagruato, the owners of the rig, must have disturbed the creature when they were getting the oil. But, the sattelite that crashes at the end of the movie, in a clip from before the whole incident, could of woken the creature too. But many of our questions will be anwsered in... CLOVERFIELD 2!!!!!!!!!! Hoooray!

No, there is definitely more than one monster that you see in the movie. You get a quick glimpse at the mother I think but only for a little while.

EDIT:

Is there really gonna be a Cloverfield 2?

Oops, I thought I edited that. Ya, I think there are about 3 monsters: The crawling one, the one that kills Hudd, and the one that jumps up onto the bridge that just got destroyed by Clovers tail.

I believe theres going to be a sequel. I heard a lot about it, and saw a magazine that said there was going to be one. There better be one, cause Cloverfield is awesome!

At the Star Trek panel at WonderCon, director J.J. Abrams was asked about the progress on making sequel to their monster hit (ha ha) Cloverfield, which opened last year to set a couple of box office records.

"We're actually working on an idea right now," Abrams told the packed crowd. "The key obviously at doing any kind of sequel, certainly this film included, is that it better not be a business decision. If you're going to do something, it should be because you're really inspired to do it. It doesn't really have to mean anything, doesn't mean it will work, but it means we did it because we cared, not because we thought we could get the bucks. We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we're playing with, which means there will be something that's connected to 'Cloverfield,' but I hope it happens sooner than later because the idea is pretty sweet."

... some people are complaining about the camera 'n stuff... But i really think its cool, i even think it's better this way.
because that way the feeling that it could happen for real, or that it actually happened gets bigger. At least that's what i think.

Really liked the story. I mean they where at this party, and suddenly they heard this big explosion, and everybody is looking, and nobody knows whats going on.

I like this movie, and i really don't understand why some people think it's bad...

so, like that....

CAMERA IS AWESOME

I liked cloverfield...thought the whole story was really cool; I didn't mind the camera I thought it was pretty unique. I didn't really catch many of the secrets or really even realize it was different monsters lol.

I need to watch it again I guess lol; but over all I thought it was really cool especially the ending was pretty crazy...just when you thought they were about to get away.

I would interested in learned the little known secrets and watching the second one.

you said the filming SUCKED! and it gave you a headache in the next post...its really not hard to draw the lines there.

and perhaps you don't know becuase I said you SHOULDNT of been negative repped because this is suposed to be a discussion thread.

you really need to watch who your attacking, because that isn't exactly how i'd talk to someone that was trying to have my back.

Just a note on the filming - Someone I was talking to told me it made them sick in the theatre. I ended up watching it on my 60 inch DLP on Bluray and it was fantastic. Brought the same person over to show them and they said it was fantastic in my house but they had a problem in the theatre.

So, the fast movements and style may have been difficult to watch in certain circumstances, but personally - I absolutely LOVED this movie and the camera style.

Nope. Theres a massive story behind it, but it never came down with that satellite. It may have been disturbed by it, but it never came down with it. The creature lived under the water and a small corporation awoke it.

Ah, so that explains it. Let me put how it all started into a small description:

Kazui Ichigawa, a marine biologist working for Tagruato, found the creature. His boss later killed him and his family, and stole their laptop, containing evidence of this creature. Tagruato created an oil rig above the monsters location, and falsely said they were drilling for oil. 6 months before the oil rigs completion, several submarines were sent down to investigate the creature, which then startled it. The creature grew to it's massive size by eating SeaBed's Nectar, a sort of steroid that Tagruato's subsidiary company, Slusho!, use as their secret ingredient. After a while, the creature attacks the oil rig, and destroys it. It then wanders to shore, and finds Manhattan. It tries to eat the Statue of Liberty's head, but throws it away because it can't. It then attacks the city, and so the movie begins.

If you look closely at the scene were Hudd is eaten by Clover, you can see it has two long tubes coming out of it's chest. They look like arms, but they are really a way for it to eat things that are smaller than it, such as humans. Its pretty cool when you notice them.

LOL - there is a serious question as to what happens to the girl that got bit when the medics take her behind the clear plastic wall. I say her head explodes, others disagree. Just thought it was funny you said head explodes.

Actually...
The Parasites have concentrated levels of Katei no Mitsu in their blood, a key ingredient in Tagruato's Slusho! beverage. One theory is that water poured onto a Parasite causes a reaction in the Parasite's saliva that accelerates the degenerative process in the HSP's victims; The life span of a victim varies between 20 or 40 minutes. Moments before death, victims of Parasite bites exhibit Symptoms of dizziness, bleeding from the eyes and nose alongside vomiting blood.

Their bodies expand and the central cavity explodes outward. Marlena Diamond and a solider being carried out on a stretcher died in this manner. Isolation of victims in their final moments are a precaution against initial fears of viral contamination. The rapid containment of their bodies before inevitable combustion is also necessary for hygienic purposes.

My second favorite movie of all time, I love it. So immersive. Congrats to JJ abrams for making a sad ending.....It was great, I'm so sick of happy endings.

Anyone else see Clover in the poster?

when I saw it the first time in theaters, the people behind me said "what was that" after the movie ended. They thought it was crap, but me and my friend thought it was awesome. I don't get it, everyone I show it to loves the movie (my friends), but the general public/reviewers tend to hate it. Weird.

Also, I didn't believe the thing about the satellite at the end. I rewatched that part about 10 times until I saw it. JJ has gone nuts with lost, but man can he make a good movie

No, there is only one monster that attacks the city, and thats Clover, the baby. You never see mommy or daddy.

Then why does the baby have more babies? it makes no sense. The big monster was defiantly the mommy.

So, wait. Is there a definitive answer on this or what? Even if it's only confirmed in a wiki, I'll call it definitive. I just want to read some logic here...

I haven't seen Cloverfield.

I'm all for a good old monster movie, but the cam-style is a definitive no for me. I can't stand it unless it's only for a brief part of a movie. I'm also not a fan of the hype that surrounded the movie's release. Hype generally ends with disappointment and broken promises.

From what I read, the plot seems interesting enough. I definitely would have gone to see it if it hadn't been filmed in cam-style.

The film was very hard to watch in theaters; I had an unbelievable headache by the end of it. However, it's much easier to get through on even a 52" HDTV. I've seen it a few times now on Blu-ray and no problems. But, if you're annoyed with the style itself, well...

And hype can be bad for a film, but it's not in this case especially considering the movie came out over a year ago. All said, you should definitely give it a shot now that it's available for rental at the very least.

I may need to go out and buy this on Bluray today... I rented it originally from Netflix and it was absolutely amazing. The part where they are climbing the collapsed building (vertigo inducing!) was some of the best and effective camera work I'd seen.

But, I definately need to watch it again and study some of this stuff. I imagine I missed quite a few details the first time around...

I didn't get a headache from watching it - but it was over hyped and felt long winded despite being only an hour and a half long.

I probably would've been kinder to it had I first watched it on a good TV - graphics and effects aside, the cinema makes me focus much more on a film, and the flaws become more apparent.

Worth watching on DVD, but I'm ambivalent about the cinema experience.
