What LBP3 did right...

Archive: 50 posts

With all the negativity going around I thought it would be nice to have a positive thread as well. To kick things off, I really liked the 3 story themes, they felt well defined and fresh. I liked the Lagoon's visual style best, but the Ziggurat was pretty close (and how cool is a dragon train engine lift-off!?). Manglewood wasn't as appealing visually, but the soundtrack really ties it together. And that space level, that's how space should feel!

So, what do you like about LBP3?

Why does everyone forgot to count the prelude book? It even had a boss at the end so i'd still count it as a book, especially since to me it almost was my favorite of them on LBP3. *mew

And off the top of my head. Small thing I am thankful for that was added from LBPvita to LBP3 is the destroy all emited objects option on emitters. :-)

The characters are funny.
Hugh Laurie did an excellent job voice acting as Newton.
"I love the mountain air, it feels so... air-y."

And it's cool that you got to see Larry Da Vinci and Victoria Von Bathysphere again.

Yeah, loved the bits of Fry and Laurie. Rest was good, too.

I didn't forget, it just felt a bit more generic to me. The Alps level was sweet, I guess.

I'm extremely thankful for the animations chip. it's the absolute best new feature of LBP3 to me. *mew

The second one, just after the intro, where you descend from a mountain with Newton. Felt like Swiss Alps to me. Guess that was a bit too vague a description. 2014-12-02 22:31:00

I really liked that 1 actually, was fun trying to race newton to the end of the level. =P
And the level gave the perfect Sonic green hill zone grass material. Yohohoo. xD *mew

And I really liked Newton's air ship level... just wish it was a longer level.

My favourite level was probably Go Loco or Shake, Rattle and Roll; I loved that 50s theme so much. That said, Deep-Space Drive-In was amazing too, I loved the zero-g gameplay, if only that was a default option in LBP3. I also love the sixteen layers, it makes me feel like I'm using the 50 layers glitch, something I could never accomplish in the previous two games.

Also, Newton is possibly the best character in the entire franchise. He should have gone with Sackboy and his sackchums back to Craftworld, I also loved the appearance of
Captain Pud
at the end: "I don't remember there being a strict rule..."

Yeah the space level was 1 of my top favorite levels from this game. the 50s level with the milkshake stuff was a very cool level too.

Yeah Newton was fun. Tho personally I wish they didn't force my character to be against Newton, and I think it would had been fun if we could had joined together to try to take over bunken and perhaps failed to do so which would be funny. I always enjoyed goofy villeins. *mew

You can tell I'm biased, but, he sort of reminds me of a more sophisticated Wheatley. I wish we had more choices in video games xD, I probably would have sided with him too. Then again, would he let us? The Titans were possessing him, I doubt he'd want anyone else to share all his creativity...

Who knows? But i would had been ok playing as his minion. xP
Wonder what would had happened if our sackdoll got possessed instead of newton? :o

That would be so strange...the Titans going for Sackboy instead of Newton; can you imagine an evil sackperson? Playing as Newton against them would be incredibly surreal, and incredibly cool. I'm tempted to make that now...
Maybe when I get the time I might make a cutscene out of it...

Ziggurat is probably my favourite theme. Papal Mache is a good character and i really like his dialog, he'se very nice to the player. Ziggurat really has a nice vibe to it i feel and it's very neutral. I felt as if Manglewood looked (and also nearly feeled) sorta dark or eerie at times, i guess someone at Sumo accidentally went in Global Controls and messed with the Darkness slider. Not saying the Manglewood levels are bad, but i don't like them as much as the Ziggurat levels. The same with Bunkum Lagoon. They're not bad but i liked the happy feel of Ziggurat more. Besides it had only like five main levels...

That is just my opinion.

Personally I always wanted to see the community start up a community project with a small storymode featuring some or even all of LBP's villeins as the main characters. The collector, The negativeton or whatever it's called and it being piloted by with what i think was secretly LBP2's real villein 'Avalon' and the cake villein from the move pack and finally Newton. *mew

And back on topic. I'm happy they added the de-physical tool from LBPvita to LBP3. Also really love the physics chip. And the new kill chip is very useful. :-)

Cool, I was thinking of doing a thread like this. First off, I loved the story mode. It was the best yet IMO.
A few of the thing I like in create are...
Microchips are less shiny, not so much of a glare when I'm hooking up loads of wires.
Microchip boards change color now so I don't have to sticker them cause I always hated the green.
16 layers.
Dephisicalizer is great. Used to need a glitch to do it and it took lots longer.
Opacity tweaker.
Destroy all emitted input on emitters.
Dynamic thermo.
I love that you can zoom waaaayyyy out while in dynamic thermo level by holding down right stick for a time.
Pretty much all the new tools I could go on and on

We could actually do that on LBP2. I set almost all my chips as white.

Hmm, maybe I'm going nuts, but I'm sure that I tried it when lbp2 came out and the actual board didn't change color, so I always stickered them.
Either way I still love everything else...

I liked the addition of the new characters and how they open up gameplay options for creators who may not be skilled enough to mess with sackboy's physics. Ahem.

Captain Pud

I think the broadcast microchip is one of the best pieces of logic to be added to the game. No longer do we have to go around tweaking a billion instances of the same microchip. Now all you have to do is tweak one chip and all just tag all the other objects. I've found it to be such a time saver now and incredibly versatile.
All they need to do to make it perfect is make it so that controlinators have inputs when placed on a broadcast chip like they do when on a sackbot.

Captain Pud. Who was he? I know that was supposed to be a big reveal, but I don't remember him from the previous games.

That's because he wasn't in the previous games. Bunkum is a new world, or well... Universe, or somethi- point is, he doesn't exist outside of Bunkum; at least not yet and until they reveal more about Cpt. Pud's back-story. At least, I know I have never heard of him until LBP3.

It's hard to narrow it down. I love the extra layers, the broadcast chip, the blaster handle, teleporters, animation and rotation tweakers, and so on. Maybe the infinite level option: the thermometer has always kicked my butt in the past so it's nice to be able to kick back!2014-12-03 06:38:00

I just think the levels are really good. As far as acing goes they feel fair. The best story levels I've played yet. The hot pipe level reminds me so much of DKC2. That one and belly of the beast are my favorites.2014-12-03 09:08:00

Thank Sack for this thread! The negativity around here was starting to give me a migraine.

I love the structure of the Story Mode, and the non-linearity of it. Combined with the depth (graphically and figuratively), this makes Bunkum feel more like a fully-envisaged "world" than the worlds of previous LBP titles. With the advent *ahem* of Adventure creating, there's big scope for depth and complexity. Maybe a set of levels that explore nostalgic backstories and elaborate on the untold tales of LBP1 and LBP PSP? Just a thought.

Anyway, I'm just here to faff about and gad about and compose music... about.

...

Hmm? Yes, I still exist. Been busy.

Favourite quote:

"Oh, blast my mind open! I forgot most important thing! BUY ME FUNNY SOUVENIR HAT! IF YOU HAVE THE TIME!"
- Papal Mache
Well, that or:

"We have to get out of here! I'm allergic to drowning! I come out in these...big...big...well, death."
- Newton

I have been a bit opionated, but I do like this game...a lot actually and this might sound kinda wierd in light of all the bugs, but mainly for its stability.

I did manage to get some of my logic imported without any issues and even though the thermo isnt as good as I thought( Some of my levels seen maybe a 6 percent advantage from LBP2), I found that even if the thermo was high, the creation mode ran at really fast speeds. Microchips didnt slow down the game. I am not sure if this is the same on PS3.

And GOOD GOD the graphics are so beautiful. I was a little sceptacle until I witnessed the glory in full 1080p. Some of the effects you can achieve in this game is just crazy now. A lot thanks to the lighting advantages and texture resolution.

I also really really love the 16 layers and character animator. I literally day dream at work about things I want to create in this game and I am checking every day to see when the fixes will be in place.

Its kinda funny because it feels like christmas morning, you know when you were a kid?. I know I have this wonderful present waiting for me but I have to wait to open it. I do have other games to play, but I really cant wait to get into this more. Even though I am frustrated with the launch, its pretty hard to not like LBP3 or not see its grand potential.

Indeed. I've also noticed that I get a lot less microchip lag when they get thick with wires. Takes longer to even start slowing down and when it does it's not as bad.

Pinky's voice annoyed me. If there was ever a character I wish they forgot to put a non-slap function on, it was her. I think, though, my absolute favourite moment of the game was:
Newton expelling the final Titan from his mind in "Newton's Bulb Explored". It actually made me cheer out loud; "I think that you, my 'friend', are a big blooming bully, and I'm not going to stand here and listen to this any longer!"

I found the story to be very fun and mostly well designed. I loved the hub level format and getting to find the extra bells and treats hidden around as you unlocked new tools.

Many of the new tools are amazing. I personally love the adventure maps, the broadcast chip, the object saver, the blaster handle. Pretty much all of the new tools are groundbreaking.

Oh, and my BF and I were yelling "POOSH DA BOOTON!" at each other for days after playing through the game together.

I liked when I checked out the dust material for the first time. "Oh cool, dust material." Opened its tweak menu... "WTF you can put stickers in it?! ZOMG!!!" Then I used the UV tool on it. "OMG!" Then of course I took a peak at the weather materials. "ZOMFG!" lol2014-12-06 04:30:00

This is going to be a little unconventional, but I really liked the glitches. Well, some of them at least.

Sneaking in a Popit Powerup to the Story Levels and messing around probably gave me more pleasure than playing the levels themselves - and it also helped me 100% and ace everything with extreme ease.

The ability to see every single story level in Create Mode too is a dream come true for me. I actually spend most of my time on LBP 3 now "snooping" - searching for secret tools in the story levels (and I've found quite a few).

One of the things they did right was adding the ability for creators to make Adventures. I've seriously been waiting since LBP1 for the ability to make story patches, and the adventure map creator is a step better than that. Finally, I can make my own story, and decorate its world map, too! Really looking forward to that.2014-12-14 12:20:00

Everything mentioned has been really good, and certainly does make you forget about some of the negatives for a bit! I have to say, the most exciting thing for me with this game is seeing the potential people can, and already have, shown with the 16 layers. Already there have been some amazing level and the thought now that, with all those layers and tools, no 2 levels should ever be the same again gives me much joy 2014-12-14 15:07:00
