Straight-away Race

Archive: 9 posts

I do not know how to put this...

Is it possible that I can create a straight-away race? I want to have a race that does not come back to itself, but once the player reaches a certain point of the level, that counts as a lap. I was thinking I could do it with goals or checkpoints but then I wondered how to set it so the goal or checkpoint counted as a lap. Thanks in advance

If you're not crossing the same point, then technically it's not a lap, right? So a checkpoint race would be why you're looking for.

Just trying to figure out what you want correctly, and correct any misunderstandings there may be.

If you want, you can use a checkpoint race, using custom checkpoints that signal a custom HUD lap count. Or regular checkpoints, with a progress sensor on the kart, that signals your custom HUD lap display. Or you could set sensors along the path that signal your display. Or you could get technical and have the environment change depending on what lap you're on.

I'm not sure why you'd want a lap counter if there's no laps.

If you want a straight line race, you will need to make your track as long as possible.
First make your track it has to be connected from start to finish, make it look like a sausage or hotdog.
Next at the point where it curves you can change the track or erase the track (you will be only using up to where the track curves).
Set up at the end of the straight track, a 'player sensor thats hooked up to a game ender'.
The person who reaches the 'sensor' first will win.
Simple, hope these ideas presented give you some sort of ideas on 'how to'.

I made a tutorial " how to make the track change at lap two or three ". Can't add the link cause I'm writing from a smartphone but you can find it easily in the tutorial section for karting. It may helps.2014-12-02 16:36:00

Okay... you do not know what I am thinking...

Look at this video. It does not go in a loop but there are checkpoints that mark the laps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fF11_qvJcY

Like I said, if you're not driving in a loop, then there aren't actually laps. What you're looking for is a checkpoint race, with a set path to follow.

I watched the video and see what they did there, but what they did was make a checkpoint race using their system that requires laps.

Regardless, my suggestions should work for you. If you would like, I could go more in depth with one of your choosing.

Yes a checkpoint race it definitive what you need. Just have to make your own custom lap counter. In the level from Shamanate ( midnight mad dash)I think that you can earn a lap counter as prize, which might help you to understand how to do it.2014-12-03 08:54:00

Have a look at my Rally Challenge (https://karting.lbp.me/v/u6tc) level. See if that's the kind of thing you're after. If so, just ask away and us friendly sackfolk will no doubt give you the advice you need.

I played it and found nothing. I scored 1st place yet I got nothing. I looked at the details and it said you could find three prizes, but I could not find one.

It's okay, I'll just make my own lap counter with the custom HUD. I have never used it before so can you guys give me some tips? Stephen Fry does not give a deep tutorial.

Okay, I figured it out. I have all the logic needed for it. I tested it and it works, but now I need to know how to remove those pesky blue flag indicators. By the way, I found it is possible to "drive" sideways. I used the course I made for this and I put asphalt at the end of it. When people went through it and ended the level, they would drive right up the asphalt!
