Controlling animation of decorations?

Archive: 7 posts

Is this physically possible? Specifically, the camera shutter decoration looks like an absolutely amazing door to employ for futuristic levels.

However, it just sits and opens and closes over and over, as that is its animation.

I know I can control the animation of physical objects, but what about decorations you stick to things? Being able to control the animation of this would be quite the boon.

Place them on a holograph and change the holographs animation settings. Some of them malfunction if you change it though (haven't had much experimentation on this)

Awesome, works great.

Sadly, putting an animation tweaker on the hologram doesnt let me control the animation, but I found a work around.

I only needed the door to open, and stay open. Using a timer I just had it play enough to open up.

The time it takes for its animation seems to be between 1 and 1.1 seconds, so if I repeatedly use a timer to open/close it it starts going off synch after a few uses, so that was a no go.

So I stuck to just popping open and staying open, works great. Thank you!

You could get around that by playing the timer for long enough to open it, and then play the timer backwards. That way it's always on the first cycle and you never get out of synch.

No, thats just the same as setting the timer to reset.

The issue is the animation itself won't play backwards unless I can make the animation of the holograph play backwards.

And for some reason I can't control holograph animation timing or speed via logic. I can only preset that and then turn it on/off.

Settings for holograph are on/of and brightness, no speed logic on it in terms of switches and etc.

I am going to see if this works for any animated object, and see if I can tweak some other objects animation speed.

An Object Animation Tweaker set to Positional on the Hologram could work. When it's on, it will be at the end of it's animation (depends on if the signal is 100%), and when it's off it'll be back to the start of it's animation. 2014-12-01 01:18:00

Object animation tweakers dont effect materials as far as I am seeing, they only effect tools (like spinning disc, decoration mount, lights)

And, inversely... the whole decoration animation matching what it is stuck to only works for materials, like hologram.

I am almost done a work around, but its taking some math skill.

The animation SPEED of the hologram matches the animation of the decoration.

So I need to find the exact length of the animation. Doing so atm by dropping it down to 10% animation speed, and getting it perfectly timed with a timer. x10 that and thats the exact animation time.

Then I need to find a animation % that gives a close to perfect something.something animation time. The timer can only have an accuracy of .1 of a second, so if I can make the animation, say, 6.1 seconds long, then we're good.

It looks like its very close to 10.15 seconds, which means an animation speed of 175% will get me 5.8 seconds long animation.

Which a timer can now accuratly align with.
