PS3 Playability after 1.2?

Archive: 5 posts

How has the PS3 version fared after the 1.2 patch, especially create mode? Is it relatively usable? Would you recommend buying it at this stage, or should I hold out longer?2014-11-28 22:46:00

From what I can tell, LBP3 for PS3 is very usable, and I recommend buying it as soon as possible to get the most time to invest in it. Most of the big issues are on PS4, so that's good for you! However, I have some things to note:

STORY: Make sure to turn "Community Prizes" ON, otherwise you won't get the prizes from progress boards or scoreboards.
STORY: You may have an issue where the game puts fake prizes in front of the number of true prizes. If you have previously gotten every prize in a level (you'll know from the rooster sound that plays when you get the last prize), you do have all the prizes, whether the current counter shows it or not.
CREATE: The thermometer is more taxing than usual, so I recommend using the dynamic thermometer to help. A range of small should work in most platformers, but I'm not sure about other level types.
CREATE: You will be missing most of your sound effects. If you have LBP2, a simple fix is, in LBP2, to place all the sounds on an object or microchip and save it. Then go to LBP3 and choose "OK!" when it asks to import your previously made objects.
CREATE: When making custom powerups, be sure to save the powerup as not just a sackpocket item, but also a custom object. This way, you can use the powerup in any of your levels. If you try capturing the sackpocket/powerup pedestal with the powerup in it as an object, but not the powerup on its own, when you take it out in another level, there will be no sackpocket item for the level to refer to, and therefore no powerup.
CREATE: Identical custom powerups may have changes for additional players, as this picture shows. I don't know how to fix it except to wait for an update:

CREATE: The game takes much longer than previous games to rewind. To make up for it, it takes much shorter than previous games to save!
ONLINE: When looking for levels, pressing X on a category will show more levels of the category in an LBP2-esque format. Pressing R3 from here will let you narrow down your search by looking for specific tags put on a level.
OTHER: The store may infintely load, and I don't know how to fix it except waiting for an update.

I've been having loads of fun with this game, and I hope you do, too!

About that dynamic thermo, I've heard the best way to avoid crashes is to not turn it on, and to use the blank LBP3 background. Another option is to leave create alone until it's more stable, the story should keep you busy for a while. 2014-11-29 23:02:00

I can't honestly recommend this game to anyone in its current state. I've never seen a game released in such bad shape before. Yeah, the LBP series has always been glitchy, but this is bad even by LBP standards. I would wait for a price drop and maybe by then the game will actually be playable. I want my money back. 2014-11-29 23:28:00
