I just did the first area and it unlocked the second but I rebooted the game then so It would apply the update, now the second area isn't there and if I try to play the latest story level it crashes the game...

Have you tried going into safe mode and either using "Rebuild Database" on PS4 or "Rebuild Database and Restore File System" on PS3? While it's not a guarantee it has helped some of my friends with crashing issues.

I rebuilt the database and it was still crashing. I just deleted all my LBP3 data and now it's no longer crashing. Can I import my LBP1 and lbp2 items ot will it cause it to crash again?

I personally have not heard anybody talking about imported content causing crashes but I suppose it could be the reason.....
