Why Have Permanency And Preloader?
Archive: 12 posts
I'm just wondering why they have both, baring in mind that both lead to a permanent state. Why couldn't you just use the Preload for everything you wanted to stay in your level? I really don't see the point in the permanency tweaker. | 2014-11-27 19:14:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
you can activate the preloader during the gameplay in the level, so you dont want everything to be loaded at once or you want something loaded at a certain time, permanency will keep the objects there no matter what | 2014-11-27 20:19:00 Author: CHiMES_D Posts: 18 |
The preloader only loads one way, whereas if you wire something up to a permanency tweaker, if you are in the other area, the wires load the other area as well. And preloaders will load an area much easier than putting permanency tweakers on everything. So in essence, preloaders are more efficient if used properly whereas permanency tweakers are safer. | 2014-11-27 23:25:00 Author: koltonaugust Posts: 1382 |
And permanency is good for things in the level that involve logic that you don't want disappearing because of the dyno-therm. | 2014-11-27 23:29:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |
I'm wondering though, let's say you want to create a huge map in the editor, how would you do that if it's not possible to do without the dyna-thermo flushing stuff out DURING gameplay? | 2014-11-28 13:57:00 Author: Rovelius Posts: 74 |

I'm not sure what you mean, but I think you're saying a huge map (like top-down) but the answer is you don't. The Ps3/ps4 can't handle that without optimization which is what the dynamic thermo does. Certain things would have to go unless it all fits with permanency tweakers. | 2014-11-29 06:17:00 Author: koltonaugust Posts: 1382 |
I've answered my question by looking at some Create Mode gameplay. The game's dyna-thermo works in Create Mode too without deleting anything, which was my main fear. | 2014-11-30 07:08:00 Author: Rovelius Posts: 74 |

Eeeeh wait till December to decide on that or not. I have encountered a nasty little glitch more than once where if you rewind with dynamic thermo engaged, it will decide that maybe you didnt need that chunk of your level, and delete it. You have to hurry and rewind 4 or 5 times after that to recover, and you don't always catch it. I have fallen back to patrolling the level for deleted sections after every rewind, and before every save. | 2014-11-30 08:08:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |

Omg... are you serious? -_- *sigh* I'm starting to think I'll pass up on this mess and just stick to LBP2... this is ridiculous. | 2014-11-30 12:33:00 Author: Rovelius Posts: 74 |

Are you on PS3 or PS4; download or physical copy? | 2014-11-30 12:51:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |
Curious. Are you on PS3 or PS4; download or physical copy? I know he's PS4 because I've watched him building his level. | 2014-11-30 13:29:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
I know he's PS4 because I've watched him building his level. In that case, I wonder if the glitch is also in the PS3 physical copy then. | 2014-11-30 14:03:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |
