Whenever my girlfriend and I try to play local multiplayer, the game spits out an error stating that "The profile couldn't load". It was working a few days ago. I have tried everything from having her log in (turn on the second controller and selecting her profile) after the game has booted to having her log in before starting the game. I'm close to completely giving up on LBP 3 and trading it in. I have been a fan of the series since the first entry but this latest installment was released in such a broken fashion I end up feeling more frustrated than anything every time I play it. The new hub based level system simply doesn't work. Whenever I clear a hub by beating a boss, the new world never unlocks (even when I don't skip the final cut scene). This requires me to replay the boss level and/or cut scene until the game randomly decides to unlock the next series of levels. Any advice/tips would be much appreciated.

I really don't know what to tell you. :/ I've beaten the game, and 100%'d it all. But I did mostly all of it solo, and basically did the 2x/4x solo as well. I never really had any issues, although It's not like I tried to play the game throughout with another person. So you may just have to wait, I'd just recommend using create mode until things get fixed. :/

I'm having the same problem. I played through most of the story mode in 2-player with my brother. After a few days, it just stopped working. It still doesn't let me join him. "A player failed to load your profile." It lets him join me if I'm player 1 though.

We had the same problem, but I think I fixed it. (Incidentally it started as soon as we tried and failed to join other players online.) I did a bunch of things, and I'm not really sure the key step.... Logged into the PS3 as the girlfriend and opened the game up successfully under her profile. (But now her progress was all locked out, which seems to be a separate bug.) Reset the girlfriend's sackgirl costume to plain old sackboy. Quit LBP3. Logged back in as myself and went into one of the Popit Academy levels. After I was in the level, I started up her controller and chose her as Player 2. Now she's back in, and she could restore her costume just fine. All's well. No problems since then, but we are also avoiding any non-couch co-op until the patch.
