the ground moves like smoke. it moves around like toxic gas does

i think it's some kind of a glitch

Yeah, must be. Try de-gassing it, whatever the word is.2009-03-01 00:08:00

It's not a glitch. I've had this happen before. It is what happens when the physics engine gets overloaded. This is typically caused by user error (at least it was the many times I've had it happen to me). Usually it was because I accidentally glued something to something that was supposed to be rotating or forgot to make a connection stiff so the whole thing is actually vibrating ever so slightly instead of having a solid foundation. Look for the areas where the smoke is coming from. It's usually fairly localized, although sometimes a problem in one spot can cause problems throughout the whole level.2009-03-01 04:25:00

oh ok. i think i accidentally glued something with a piston that was connect to two different pieces of dark matter but almost my whole level was connected so it affected my whole level. thanks though maybe i could use it as a cool effect know i know why it happened (if it is what happened)2009-03-01 05:32:00

I'd recommend not using it as a special effect because it could cause your level to break apart. Since my last post I recalled the situation when I first saw smoke. I was attempting to make a wheel that sackboy could enter and move around in. I wanted it flush against the surrounding material so sackboy couldn't go around it. However, the circle isn't a perfect circle, it's a polygon so the thing locked instead of being able to turn. Compounding this problem, was the surrounding material was not properly glued or stiff rodded to dark matter. This sent vibrations through the entire area, completely overloading the physics and resulting in the smoke.

If you want a smoke effect, I recommend using emitters. If you emit a large object, set the frequency to be shorter than the lifetime and set the maximum emitted at a time to 1 it will create a really nice smoke effect. Basically, since only one can be emitted at a time, the first one disappears as the second one is emitted. This disappearance, for some reason also creates the smoke effect (in a much more localized fashion) and does it without putting your level at risk.
