Playing LBP2 levels in LBP3...

Archive: 19 posts

I haven't really seen anyone talk about how well LBP3 handles their LBP2 levels, so I thought I'd start a thread.

I have LBP3 for PS4, YMMV if you have the PS3 version. I also don't know if the problems I encountered are specific to LBP2 levels or would also happen in a new level...

First the good. While the visuals are different, baring a few weird lighting issues, my LBP2 levels look pretty nice in LBP3...this isn't the disaster LBP1 -> LBP2 was. The various glitches like the extra layers all survived intact too.

Now for the bad.

BloodStone Part 1 (MM pick) - Creatinator doesn't emit to let you put out the fires making it impossible to finish.
Savage Planet - Cameras just don't work, which makes the shooting section at the start unplayable.
Glided Platforms - Emitted Sackbots eat themselves. After rescuing a fairy, her lower lip starts to consume her head...and then she turns into a crumpled mess...it's pretty amusing.

I didn't bother to try any other levels after this...too depressing. Doesn't seem like much testing was done here.

I did not see any option to set these levels as LBP2 only...in which case it might be better just to delete them and start fresh to avoid someone from LBP3 playing them and getting frustrated or thinking I'm a bozo (sorry, LBP2 players, but you've had your chance!)

Yeah it's pointless. It'll wreck your levels which is what I expected. BC is good for everything except actual levels. Annoyed I can't restrict access to my levels.2014-11-19 15:35:00

Have you guys tried re-publishing them from LBP3? I knwo that's a pain, but it might solve some of the issues.2014-11-19 15:38:00

I haven't tested much of my levels yet on LBP3... But on 1 of my WIP auto-scroll levels I noticed when my sackbot is doing the air trick logic I made which emits some effects behind the sackbot to make the action look more flashy and well it now has crazy lag on the game when doing the air tricks... I'm not sure how I'll fix this yet, It didn't lag the game on LBP2 whatsoever, I'll have to look into it later. *mew2014-11-19 15:40:00

That certainly would be a pain, I have zero interest in trying to fix my old levels by turning them into LBP3 levels. I doubt it's even possible right now given how buggy things are.

Interestingly enough, Bubble Ghost HD, the most frustrating and annoying level ever created in LBP2 seems totally fine!

Bah, I'd hoped the transfer was going to be a bit smoother this time. I'm mulling over the idea of slightly rejigging my LBP2 levels into some kind of LBP3 adventure/quest type thing. Guess we'll see how things fare a couple of patches down the line...

I'm not saying a total fix, just import it and publish a second time. I have no idea if it would work, just spitballing.

I tried my Goop Factory level on PS4...it looks great. The visuals are a little different and the lighting is a bit to bright, but good overall. The closest thing to an issue I ran into is a lifting platform at the beginning. The new physics make the movement a bit more "violent" than I intended...but it doesn't kill you and can be made to work.

That would be very cool!

It can only get better. Hmmm, dare I attempt to play "Star Wars: Ewok Village...Eeeeccteeeraaaaa" in LBP3?

I opted to buy Dragon Age yesterday, going to at least wait for a fix to the "profile" import before getting serious about LPB3.

I just played my last 3 published LBP2 levels and barring some odd lighting, game cam issues and blank dlc'd stickers they survived the transition working fine. Nothing that wouldn't take a couple of hours to sort out, so so far I'm happy enough.

Quick question, if I tweak them and re-publish without adding any LBP3 content, will they still be accessible from LBP2??

i had to republish my levels on LBP2 again and again with different logic which does the same at the end just to make it finally able to play in LBP3.

what i noticed: player sensors don*t work if you put them in the front thin layer. (same goes for game cameras)
also some tags don*t work if you just wire them instead of other methods.
also some DLC logic and materials glitch sometimes. or have no textures.

PS: all the great fire effects and splat destroy effects look weird now. at least those i used in my newest level.
fire (at least if a sackbot burns) looks like it was rendered on a PS2.

EDIT: and some lights are way to bright. but the rest looks very nice! even though sometimes materials show holes in textures

You see, it's like... 10 days since the launch (2 for me) so we can still call it LittleBugPlanet2014-11-28 05:15:00

I tried out both of my Jedi Arts levels and they're fine. The forcefield in Jedi Arts Two causes some crazy lighting issues for the first few minutes until it deactivates but it had actually gotten messed up a while back by an update to LBP2 (used to be that stickering hologram resulted in the brightness of the holo being determined by the brightness of the sticker-made for some very cool effects. It still mostly works that way but comes out kinda' wonky after an update a while back). There is the issue where it seems more likely to fall out of the level in the first one, though. Still, good enough that I wouldn't feel the need to lock them to LBP2 even if Sumo had given us the option.2014-11-28 16:05:00

Thanks, I had a look at mine, and the cameras that weren't functioning were the ones I'd positioned in the glitched back layers.

Has anyone else been having the problem where speech bubbles from LBP2 levels automatically close when played on LBP3?2014-11-29 01:18:00

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesss! And the lighting thing is starting to annoy me as well. My bots for my DC X DBZ levels now cause tons of these crazy seizure-causing flashes like every second. Its crazy. Some of my levels simply just don't work.

Really, so I have to buy LBP3 just to republish and fix all my LBP2 levels? LBP2 is just better, why would I want to play LBP3 so badly if all I hear is compatibility glitches and load issues from other people?
(btw op you are a jerk if you think lbp2 has simply had it's chance)
Someone please tell me otherwise.

Most of those glitches people talk about have been fixed by now . I used to complain a lot about the glitches too, but trust me, the updates have fixed almost all of them .

Also, your levels will be compatible with LBP3. I'm pretty sure level compatibilty issues were only problems back in the November 2014 launch. Stuff like that was fixed AGES ago

I nearly never had problems to play LBP2 levels with LBP3. And I also nearly never had problems with LBP3. I think that gurren009 is right, most of the glitches are fixed by now so that LBP3 has become a wonderful game! And for creators definitely more comfortable than LBP2. Nevertheless there are still lots of players who love their LBP2. Thats totally ok!

Many greetings, Jürgen^^
