How do I start my own community project?
Archive: 9 posts
Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place I barely use forums. Me and a group of friends want to start our own crown contest series which WILL NOT be level making based we want to start something new to hopefully change the way the community works.Though only 1 person in our group has a crown we do want to give crown codes away eventually as prizes. To start off with we were planning on maybe buying psn codes to give away but even then how would we get ourselves noticed? and how do we prove that our contests are legit? We have tried contacting the LBP team through twitter and steveni but we had no luck and no response. Does anyone know how rocket cheetah got themselves noticed? As our contests will be similar to their contraption challenges but focusing more on something else. I do not want to go into anymore details on the contest idea me and my friends have but if anyone can help get us noticed or if a member of staff such as steveni can answer this with some ideas or help and advice on what to do that would be great. Thanks for any sort of help now I just need to get the psn account created for it to work >.< ( see 1 of my older posts on that problem) | 2014-11-14 17:00:00 Author: sonicfan-1 Posts: 41 |
Well... I'd recommend starting it yourselves with your own rewards. If it's a contest worth being noticed, then it will be noticed. After all, they can't just suddenly sanction or back-up a contest out of the blue. | 2014-11-15 09:15:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |

That's the hard part as I already said we can give away psn codes to start off with but how do we make sure people know it's legit? I've seen alot of those fake crown psn etc contests where people just want free stuff. For us it's the opposite and we have a goal that lbp does nt revolve around just logic and level design. But to make it easier for the kids who buy this game to get rewards and such. not everyone's good at logic and level design and that's mostly what contests are aimed at, and we aim to change that with our own contest series. and none of us are good at blogging running sites and stuff like that so we really don't know where to start other than publishing a level etc and hoping that people take it seriously. | 2014-11-15 11:52:00 Author: sonicfan-1 Posts: 41 |
I'm one of the folks who's helping out with this and I'm recommending to start with small things like a facebook page or twitter. The best way to start spreading this kind of thing from what I've seen past is by word of mouth (or text) If it goes well, it'll only gain more attention over time. And of course, these forums are the ideal place to spread word of any kind of lbp contest | 2014-11-16 04:41:00 Author: Bladex61 Posts: 348 |
Definitely make some sort of hub to where players can get information about your contests and other important information. You could make a thread here or possibly a free site such as weebly or wix. Like Devious_Oatmeal said, if its worth being noticed it will noticed. Also since you're just starting out, just by proving to players that you will actually give them the reward for participating in your contest will show its legit. | 2014-11-17 01:44:00 Author: LJRobey Posts: 122 |
how would we get ourselves noticed? and how do we prove that our contests are legit? Posting in the Community Contests section here is a good place to start advertising: http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?62-Community-Contests As for making the contests "legit" well that is really up to you, make sure you can deliver any rewards you promise, be totally unbiased with any judging and build up a good reputation over time. If you can do this and your contests are fun then people will take notice; the more people take notice the higher the chance a developer might and thus offer you some sort of official backing (e.g. a crown). Though only 1 person in our group has a crown we do want to give crown codes away eventually as prizes. Also, just because you mentioned it, it doesn't really matter if you have a crown or not when it comes to running an event; from personal experience I know I've never received one but am still allowed to distribute them from time to time when we run contests here. The main thing is to prove yourself trustworthy; for example, I had a code sitting in my inbox for about half a year because it didn't match a winner's region, we replaced their one and it worked fine but I still let the old one expire even though I could have used it. I'd like to think this helped strengthen our relationship with the developer which is far more valuable. When running a competition the work is the reward so don't get into it if you are looking for personal gain. Although I'm sure I'm reading too much into that line and you'd never do that anyway. Hope this helps in some way and it works out for you in the long run. | 2014-11-17 03:11:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |

I'd also recommend that you find someone who is good at blogging, or running sites, or has some sort of experience in putting in the work that is necessary to actually keep something like this going. Personally, I find it as a bad sign in how long this would be able to last if you don't have someone who can keep up with the contest. and none of us are good at blogging running sites and stuff like that so we really don't know where to start other than publishing a level etc and hoping that people take it seriously. This is what I am referring to by the way. If I were someone who backed up projects, then this would definitely raise a red flag. I don't want to sound presumptuous, and this is just my opinion (This whole post), but by 'seriously', i would infer you mean professionally as well, and being unprepared would not be very professional. Like I said before. If it's something worth noticing, then it will be noticed. If it's legit, then people will realize it's legit when you prove that it's legit. So prove that it's legit by holding a contest and advertising it, then actually give away a prize(s). Of course, just giving out one prize doesn't mean they'll throw crown codes at you; you just need your contest to grow by being a good contest. And eventually you'll reach that point that you want to reach with your contest. It takes time, possibly more than you would expect (Or maybe it's instantly popular; you never know), and it takes work. | 2014-11-17 08:27:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |

We wont be starting till LBP3 is released in the UK and everywhere else as I myself live in the UK and cannot have a say in judging till then. I think the more support we get the more this will be a regular thing. We were thinking of hosting contests once every 2 months or once a season if we can post here to begin with that would be great and would definitely get the support we need. We also plan on making a twitter feed at some point too. If you could add me on psn enigma maybe we could talk more about it there without giving details away till we actually start our contests. I would love some advice from a member of the lbpc contest crew. | 2014-11-18 18:25:00 Author: sonicfan-1 Posts: 41 |
and are you sure we can post in the contest section here? The Community Contest section is literally designed for new contests to find their feet in the community so feel free to use it. Just don't confuse it with the Site Contest section as that is reserved for the ContestCrew/Staff. | 2014-11-18 18:55:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
