Sumo Digital, the developers behind the upcoming title LittleBigPlanet 3 has announced that their team has completed a management buyout.

Management buyout means that the managers of the firm have purchased all of its assets from their former owners. Sumo Digital was able to achieve that by receiving some backing from British private equity company North Edge Capital.

Company?s CEO Carl Cavers, COO Paul Porter, CFO Chris Stockwell and Executive Art Director Darren Millsare are the ones in charge of the firm, leaving former owner ?Foundation 9.?

Cavers upon this achievement seemed quite thrilled, also teasing new exciting games after LittleBigPlanet 3:

With the imminent release of Little Big Planet 3 and a number of exciting projects under development, the business is in an extremely strong position.

We are delighted to have completed the MBO and to be partnering with NorthEdge as we accelerate our growth strategy and cement our position as one of Europe?s leading game developers.

The studio employees more than 240 people, who have worked on some amazing titles including Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox 360), Virtua Tennis, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Dead Space Ignition and a lot more.

The director of North Edge, James Hall was also excited to partner up with such a talented studio:

Sumo Digital is a fantastic business, with an incredible reputation and a track record of delivering top titles. The business is working on a number of exciting projects and we look forward to partnering with Carl and the team as they further grow the business, capitalising on opportunities within the marketplace. Sumo has an exciting time ahead and we?re extremely pleased to be on board.

With the track record of the company, we can expect it to come up with some amazing new games in the coming years, but as for now, we are just looking forward to LittleBigPlanet 3.

Thought they were always independent, well, at least now they own themselves.

Hopefully they keep working on LBP3 for a while... that would give them a lot of guaranteed revenue flow for a while

They are a good company, I mean they made a good Sonic The Hedgehog racing game, and there are barely any Sonic titles made by Sonic Team that actually work correctly or play well. (i'm going to get a bit of flak for this)2014-11-22 19:31:00

Maybe this goes some way to explaining the current stuation?
The pressure of Private equity debt payments to meet?

Probably because you don't know what you are talking about? Both of the last games by SonicTeam which was Sonic generations PS3/Xbox360/PC version and Sonic lost world WII U version were both good games that played good, some people may disagree with me on lost world but that's their own problem as lost world was regardless a good game even if it was lacking in some areas. and before you try to bring up other Sonic titles... let me just remind you who actually made each 1. SonicBoom not by SonicTeam. Sonic4 EP1 & 2 not by SonicTeam.

While even SonicTeam's actual made by them games could be much better i agree, however most of them have in no way actually been terrible games. *mew

Sonic Lost World was fun, but I didnt like the characters or story much... I rarely do in 3D sonic games...

Anyways, I hope this might mean that Sumo could become the new Mm, or at least become THE LBP team for the future. They might not be as well put together as Mm, but LBP needs consistency I think.

I said "barely", I never said that all of them were bad, Colors and Generations were awesome. Just the games before, Sonic And The Black Night, Secret Rings, Unleashed, Sonic 06 and parts of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were bad.

I think to many people are to serious with the series. many of the games are fun even if a handful are not great or bad. the trick is to just have fun regardless, it's a game, it's a story. it's just entertainment even if some of us obess little over it. there's no reason to treat it or any game like it's a matter of life or death. it really should come down to 1 of 2 things. buy what you think is fun or don't buy something you think isn't fun. and if something you did buy doesn't end up being fun to you... instead of getting upset, just quit and play something else you do enjoy. it's pretty simple really. *mew
