LBP3 pre-order sale numbers revealed
Archive: 31 posts
Hey guys I found this bit of information interesting, since it's the first time we've heard about LBP3's financial progress so far. LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS4) had 4,029 pre-orders this last week, totaling to 35,267 overall. The PS3 version however only has 2,966 pre-orders total. To get a good idea on how it stacks up against other games, the Halo Collection has 297,972, Dragon Age (PS4) has 122,523, and The Last Guardian (PS3) has 54,904. Are you guys concerned with the low amount of pre-orders for this game? After all, LBP has always thrived off of a decent-sized community. I'm personally surprised that with PS4 being the dominant platform and PS4 gamers craving games, there aren't more sales by now. Please keep in mind that these numbers are for USA only, so Europe can add a big chunk to the total. Also keep in mind I didn't post this to be pessimistic, just knew some of you were curious on its financial position. http://www.vgchartz.com/article/252110/usa-preorders-chart-1-november-call-of-duty-advanced-warfare/ | 2014-11-09 18:28:00 Author: The5rozos Posts: 952 |
Its VG Chartz assume a certain level of guess work is involved. | 2014-11-09 18:40:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
This isn't really surprising, as this game's community has been slowly dying for a long time. Many of this site's long-time members don't even post anymore. I probably won't even buy LBP3, sadly, unless the community starts to grow again. | 2014-11-09 19:26:00 Author: Aeolipyle Posts: 20 |
As a member of the VGC forums, I would recommend that you take absolutely no notice of their preorder or software sales figures. I would also doubt their consoles figures. They're already 400k+ undertracked with the PS4. | 2014-11-09 19:40:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
Personally I'm waiting to get a PS4 at christmas before I get the game, so maybe that's why people haven't pre-ordered. | 2014-11-09 19:41:00 Author: Jakest123 Posts: 319 |
VGchartz? Yeah, I'm just going to assume they don't know what they're talking about. | 2014-11-09 19:48:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
VGchartz huh... I think i remember reading somewhere that people should not believe anything from VGchartz. I know a site i was at before sometime ago had links to VGchartz banned from being posted i think. However it is kinda true that LBP is not a super popular series, especially nowadays. it's just how it is... Which reminds me while back i looked around some general gaming sites and a lot of people in those places didn't think very highly of LBP and had almost no interest in LBP3. | 2014-11-09 20:59:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |

I wouldn't worry too much. I left lbp almost 2 1/2 years ago. I did finish up two old projects, but that was really only a few weekends worth of playtime... I'm definitely coming back for lbp3. Can't wait as a matter of fact I'm sure I'm not the only one... | 2014-11-10 00:35:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |
I think LBP's not the best game to catch attention with a more adult crowd unless they really see what it is capable of. Most titles these days have a very series tone. Honestly, only Nintendo is the one with games that are similar to LBP in looks, and that category of looks is mostly seen as a kid's game, plus they have an added bonus of a nostalgia and familiarity with their brands that have been around when the now-adults were children Which I do believe that this game is mostly marketed towards children, and I would guess they make up the majority of those that play it, but it's the ones who make those really amazing levels, who I assume is mostly the adults, that really drive the creativity aspect of the game. Although I do not have any evidence to back any of this up. If anything, I would call this all a hypotheses based on experience in the community. So many times do people in this forum hint that it's just a kid's game, and when asking others about LBP, the usual response that I've gotten has been that it's not interesting enough, sometimes they have even said because it just looks like a kid's game. Imagine if we got a trailer for LBP3 that showed off how it could be gritty; how it could be taken seriously. And I am not talking about a facetious trailer where it acts serious, but then the camera pans or changes to the child-friendly look we all know and do adore. Sure the game has a cute side, and that is good, but the game also has a very serious side. Granted, this is all just opinion and I am saying this because I am one of those people who never says, 'It's just a game'. I say never, but there are exceptions. The reason I say all of this is because I believe (And it's just my opinion) that this may be a reason as to why this game is seen in the way that it is. And I am not saying to join the bandwagon of modern games, but showing that it could be just as serious as modern games would be great. | 2014-11-10 05:12:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |

Sounds reasonable, and to top it al off a very high number of kids don't even want to play kids games. They want GTA V and such... | 2014-11-10 10:15:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |

Unfortunately the immense possibilities of LBP as a creative experience and artistic expressive format have been nullified by community management, spotlights, team picks celebrating and pandering to generic mediocrity at the expense of original thought on a regular basis. | 2014-11-10 10:25:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |

I can't blame them, if I wasn't in the beta and only had the trailers and promotional material to amp me up then unapted I would have remained. Additionally, LBP has never been massively popular and both of the latest games haven't done well (that is, Karting and LBPV). Pre-orders are a bad practice regardless, woop. | 2014-11-10 12:14:00 Author: bonner123 Posts: 1487 |
I haven't pre-order yet but I will be. Just can't decide on what bundle to get with a new PS4. I've been eyeing up the LBP3 bundle at GAME but I'm not too keen on the camera in the bundle or see much point in it. May end up buying the game on it's own and the console in another bundle depending on what's with it. | 2014-11-10 14:37:00 Author: LittleBigDes Posts: 920 |
I don't think I'l pre order. Will likely just buy it on the day, or soon after. | 2014-11-10 15:31:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
I'm waiting for the reviews to see if it's any good. I pre-ordered mine.... I know it's good. | 2014-11-10 17:17:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Speaking of which, do you guys working on LBP3 get copies of the game for free? NDA Also, are you working on cool DLC for LBP3 at the moment now that you're done with the main game? NDA And while I'm typing this, please patch in group publishing in the future? :kz: NDA Purple Edits by Morgy - hope that helps | 2014-11-10 17:21:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
I'm waiting for the reviews to see if it's any good. Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. If only they'd employed some 'decent' creators from the community ... But I guess we can't have everything. | 2014-11-10 17:23:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |

Why was the post edited? I thought the NDA was over... Morgana25 is under NDA because she works for Sumo. | 2014-11-10 23:48:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. If only they'd employed some 'decent' creators from the community ... But I guess we can't have everything. I have faith in their decisions to some degree. Edit: Also, didn't see this before! I wish they chose something that could have looked a bit more polished, (Neversatisfied.jpg) but this is pretty funny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELuhSP1PALM | 2014-11-12 06:48:00 Author: Devious_Oatmeal Posts: 1799 |
This is an incredibly stacked month in a season that has already been quite stuffed and despite some peoples belief that LBP will be ok because it isn't the same audiance it is going to suffer because some that are interested will be getting other games and be picking LBP 3 at a later point. It's not all doom and gloom though, despite platformers having a weaker launch they can do well later on when the price drops and LBP has a lot of DLC available with more guarenteed to release over the years to help keep the franchise profitable. | 2014-11-12 11:45:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
There's virtually no media coverage of this game, the advertising is lousy, and what little coverage there is doesn't really tell you anything. I'm wondering if Sony is thinking oh it's LBP so it'll sell itself. No need to advertise! I'm starting to think that we as fans should hype it up shortly after its released with some fan-made trailers on youtube. | 2014-11-12 13:31:00 Author: Reef1978 Posts: 527 |

Shareplay will help, as will Sharefactory. | 2014-11-12 13:56:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
This is being released on the same day as GTA V and Dragon Age 3. It is also coming out a month and a half before Christmas. Preorders will be low, but I expect steady sales for a while. They will clean up at Christmas as Parents buy the "cute little guy" game for their kids and places like GameStop push the crap out of it. Black Friday sales may drive it as well. I also expect it to get a nice resurgence of LBP 1&2 players when it drops to $40 in 4-6 months. LBP3 will be fine, in the long run. | 2014-11-12 13:59:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
Shareplay will help, as will Sharefactory. I don't even know what that is. Is that a PS4 thing? | 2014-11-12 14:19:00 Author: Reef1978 Posts: 527 |
I don't even know what that is. Is that a PS4 thing? Sharefactory is an easy way of making videos to be posted on Youtube and Shareplay is a utility that enables other people to play a game for 1 hour even if they haven't got it. | 2014-11-12 14:27:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
Shareplay will help, as will Sharefactory.I do think people may be underestimating the after release exposure lbp3 will get. Live streaming and the ease of sharefactory are going to drive in some sales I bet. | 2014-11-12 14:42:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |
I forgot about shareplay/sharefactory. Yeah, that will help a lot. | 2014-11-12 15:36:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
