Concerns and suggestions about backwards compatibility for new players.

Archive: 17 posts

So, we're all excited to find that LBP3 will be backwards compatible in just about every way imaginable. That's great, but I feel like there's a few issues that some people, myself included, may be effected by. For one, all content unlocked through LBP1 and LBP2 will carry over to LBP3. That's obviously wonderful news, unless you are new to the game and LBP3 is the first installment that you will be playing. This means that the people out there who are over-flowing with creativity, eager to create something, will be missing literally hundreds of assets that others have access to for building their creations. I'm not just talking props and materials, but other really important things like music, costumes and sound effects, too. Naturally, this makes me wish that there was some way that I could play through the first two games in preparation for the third one coming in a few weeks, but unfortunately, I would have to buy a ps3 and both games due to the fact that those games are not even available through Playstation Now. My suggestion is that the content from the first two games be available as DLC for those of us who would not have access to it any other practical way. Or, if the first two games were available through Playstation Now, At least that would give people a fair chance of legitimately unlocking all of the content. People like me, who want to maximize their potential and have 100% of the features at their disposal will gladly purchase this DLC or rent the games for a week to unlock everything.

I also want to add that I completely understand that this is a game all about community and fan-service. Even though it unfortunately does not help me, I think it's great that LBP3 is backwards compatible and that so many people will be effected by it in a positive way. You long-term fans definitely deserve it, but I just hate feeling like my creativity is being so limited because I am new to the series.

I think you'll find LBP1 and LBP2 levels will likely be included in LBPHub.

Thanks for the reply. I looked into the LittleBigPlanet Hub and unfortunately, it appears to be a ps3 exclusive. This would not help me unlock the assets from the first two games and move them forward to LBP3 because for one, I only own a ps4. Second of all, I couldn't find any information about moving content from the Hub to LBP3 once you've unlocked it. It just appears to be a standalone, FTP LittleBigPlanet.

Now, all hope is not lost because I've discovered that apparently, all content from the first LBP could be unlocked through the tutorials in LBP 2. Is this true? That would lead me to believe that you will be able to do the same in LBP 3.

Adressing your concern for LBP2 containing material from LBP1 in it's tutorials, this is semi-true. There are a lot of the assets that were practically required to have distributed to the tutorials, such as fonts, old tools, color stickers, etc. However, stuff like objects, non-basic materials, decorations, costumes pieces, and more specific stickers would require you to have to play LBP1 to get.

I often hoard material, so I have all the content for the first two games, plus some. Not much DLC besides level packs, they take up space and are really not that useful.

If you ask around I believe some people have published levels allowing you to get all the stuff from lbp1 and 2 I am unsure who exactly but I know it's possible to get stuff from community levels if they put items as prizes I think maybe 1 of the mods has published these levels but that's only from what I heard. I personally never had a reason to find out as I always 100% everything on day 1 of getting the game. But it's worth asking around if you need to. Who knows maybe they'll add an unlock all pack like they did for lbpv and allow you to get lbp1 and lbp2 stuff through that just an idea though.2014-11-14 17:19:00

I've still never managed to 100% LBP1 or 2

You mean, upon finishing LittleBigPlanet 3? I don't know where you got the news, but that would be amazing if true! There's still content from the first two games that I haven't been able to unlock yet.

No, if you finished LBP2 (and were online) then each story level had a pin associated with it. LBP3 checks those pins and if you have all of the story level completion pins then you get all the LBP2 content.

This is from Gaff:

It really isn't complicated. The game will tell you when you first boot up online and say, "oh you did some stuff in LBP1 & 2. Did you know you can import stuff from those games into your LBP3 profile?" Then you simply go to the "My Unlocks" section in the settings menu and it gives you two options: import LBP1 stuff and import LBP2 stuff. Click those and it will download everything from LBP1 story mod, previous DLC purchases and items based on pin progression for LBP2 story mode.

Like mentioned above, personal stuff like created items and collected stuff from the community will need to be published to your earth from your LBP1 or 2 game to be collected on your PS4 version.

What if I have not collected everything in the levels? How much of the items will I have transferred to LittleBigPlanet™3? Will I have only items that I have already collected in LittleBigPlanet™2? Will I have every item in the levels that is available to collect? Will I have a random selection of items? Or will I have nothing transferred to LittleBigPlanet 3?

You get ALL of the content regardless of whether you've collected it before. It's automatic for LBP1 content but with LBP2 you have to have ALL the story level pins. This is just to verify that you have completed the game and so deserve the content.

What pins do you need to have "all story pins"? Do I have to obtain the level six Ace Pin and level six Collected items Pin in order for it to give me all of the items?

You just need the ones that mark your progress in the story... if you have the complete story mode one you are good for everything.

Just the pins you get on completing each story level. If you finished the game you'll get all the content.

Same here; although I did unlock about 99% of the content in LBP2 (about 10 items). I was about 82% with LBP1 (about 25 items).
