Shrinking/enlarging objects during game play

Archive: 8 posts

Lets say there is a 'square object' in a level while playing.
I was wondering if its possible to 'control' its size during game play?

What I want to happen is when I push a button, I would like the 'square object' to grow in size, then when I push a button again the 'square object' would shrink back to normal size (or vice versa).

If this is possible, I need it for my transformers (Megatrons transformation from bot to gun).

Any ideas on this would be greafully appreciated.

I don't know of any direct "grow" or "shrink" methods, but you could use an emitter to simulate this. Have the "small" version always attached, and on it you have an emitter that emits the "large" version over the top of it using the "expand" and "shrink" settings. This would probably have issues if you're trying to move with the large part out.

Conversely, a more complicated way, but it goes around the movement issue if you need to, is to create the large version out of a bunch of small pieces. Have them expand using pistons and retract to overlap onto each other for the small version, to hide the fact that there's a bunch of extra pieces.

Just throwing this out there but surely there must be a way of integrating the Kart size tweak in this. It also has the 'timed' aspect to set the 'grow/shrink' rate.2014-11-05 21:01:00

I was under the impression that he wanted a specific part of the kart to grow, not the whole thing, but I don't know. If it is the whole thing, your suggestion is definitely the way to go.

Yes I need the whole thing to shrink and grow (megatron as a whole).
If I use the multiple piece overlapping with extra pistons and motor, it would get far to complex with all the aligning.
I would also have to quadruple the amount of pieces thats hes made up of.
The size of megatron during his transformation has to shrink down to the size of a bots hand (to hold him as a gun).
The kart resizer would be a good idea, If its possible to have 'kart resizer > kart resizer > kart resizer'. Shrinking with each resizer (unsure if it possible).

Never tried this, give it a go and let us know if it works!

You don't need to resize like that. If I understand what you're after correctly. Just set the transformation time to say 3secs and as small as you want to go, until the player presses the button again the kart will stay that small size. I used this in my Area 52 level as a 'shrink ray' from a UFO, albeit that was a timed effect, but the same applies.
