Backwards Compatibility Confirmed for LBP3

Archive: 50 posts

Here (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/10/31/littlebigplanet-3-fully-backwards-compatible/). The article states 'You will be able to bring all of your LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 Level Packs straight to LittleBigPlanet 3, along with your entire wardrobe of outfits for your Sackboy or Sackgirl!' and 'Not only is it good news for your DLC Collection because if you're a long-time fan and have played either LittleBigPlanet or LittleBigPlanet 2 previously, you will be able to import all of the goodies that you have collected in those titles to use in LittleBigPlanet 3.'

Nice to know finally!

Edit: I probably should have made the title more.... relevant to the actual content of the website. And I should have posted it in 'News and Media'.

Hopefully but I doubt it. I remember reading Sony said its possible for PS3 player and PS4 player to play on the same servers but I can't remember the source.

That'll do me

If you use the same PSN that you used for LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2, you will be able to import your goodies at the touch of a button.

Either via a prompt when you first begin LittleBigPlanet 3 or at a later date in the Pause Menu.

Will LBP1 content be transfered via the LBP2 save? I updated LBP2 with LBP1 content but I deleted my LBP1 save.

I think it should because the content earned via LittleBigPlanet transferred to LittleBigPlanet 2 is saved and if you go back to the first game earn some more prizes, it won't be available in the second game unless you update it. So through this I think the first game data is actually saved into the LittleBigPlanet 2 saved data.

Then again the article states: 'have played either LittleBigPlanet or LittleBigPlanet 2 previously, you will be able to import all of the goodies that you have collected in those titles to use in LittleBigPlanet 3.' So some of this is questionable. I think Steven can clarify this for us if he sees the thread.

It's OK. You automatically get ALL the LBP1 content and ALL the LBP2 content (if you finished all of the game). That's for the PS4 version. You will have to replay any DLC you bought though, but that's fine. It'll be interesting to see how it all looks in shiny 1080p.

That's unfortunate. I only played it 2 or 3 times.

I'd don't want to replay the DLC though. And I tried really hard to get all of the prizes in LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2. Not really fair. I wouldn't complain if I had some of them but all. Anyways, if this was in the article I only read the first 3 paragraphs. Still, were able to get all of our stuff. So... Yeah.

Please don't tell me I have to buy the PS4 camera to play the MOVE DLC levels. I will be pretty annoyed if that's the case. They'd better add controller support because I'm not buying the PS4 camera just to play the MOVE DLC.2014-10-31 21:01:00

I though we can use the old PS3 Move controller and camera on the PS4. The new PlayStation Eye was just an updated version?

In my experience the Move logic doesn't actually use the camera, just the orientation sensors in the move, so technically you should be able to play it without the camera. But who knows...2014-11-01 01:39:00

DC Universe Online (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/dcuo-on-ps4-will-allow-cross-play-with-ps3/1100-6415895/) is cross-play between PS3 and PS4, so I'm really hoping LBP3 is too!

also wow the article I linked was posted exactly a year ago lol

Does this mean I will get all the content if I log in with the same PSN account as LBP1 & LBP2, even if I never was able to upload a save file to PS+? My PS3 suddenly died and I never got a new one but bought a PS4 instead. My PSN Trophy list still remember that I finished the games, right?

If you owned and played LBP1, you get all the content. I'm guessing it goes on Trophies+Pins to check if you owned it. It's similar with LBP2, except you have to have at least completed the game and this is done with Pins.

This is encouraging. If true it means I don't have to buy a PS3 just to complete the games again to unlock everything a second time.

Just go to LBP.me and check your pins. If you have pins for LBP and pins for ALL the separate story levels for LBP2 then you're good to go.

Oh, right, I didn't realise that. They must just look at the trophies like you said then.

Unrelated to post above:

I bought the game of the year addition of LBP2 with DLC included (can't remember which it was), so will the game recognised I actually bought the DLC? I didn't buy it directly from the store but I consider it bought because I bought it with the game.

I've also noticed that it tells me I haven't bought the Pirates Of The Caribbean costumes but I have and I can wear them all. If I hit more the show up as bought. Will I be able to get these on my PS4?

Excellent, I knew they'd pull it off!

Though I will miss the bit of wonder that comes with starting with nothing and gaining items from there. Plus my materials/costumes lists are going to be giganomitrous

As most of you know, there was a recent announcement for LBP3 being fully backwards compatible recently (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/10/31/littlebigplanet-3-fully-backwards-compatible/), but I'm quite concerned about their wordings about PS3--> PS4 data transfer, here's the sentence:

"Best of all, if you have any custom content that you want to transfer from your PlayStation 3 to LittleBigPlanet 3 on the PlayStation 4, you can publish levels containing this content in Prize Bubbles so that your Sackboy or Sackgirl can visit these levels to pick your goodies up for your latest creations on PlayStation 4!"

That sentence sure makes it sound like the only way to transfer data when starting LBP3 on PS4 would be to put what you want to transfer in prize bubbles and collect those items when you start up your new LBP3 file. Does that mean they won't have a way to actually import the LBP2 profile itself if you play on PS4? How would you transfer any community play data (completion of stages and play data associated with them), community level prizes that might be locked for distribution, level keys, etc? Are we expected to lose all those?
If we can't import the profiles themselves, that sounds like quite a major drawback to the PS4 version compared to the PS3 version.

There may be a way to transfer play data: if PS4 LBP3 controls the LBP2 Story pins to give you all the objects of the game, I'd think all the pins we've earned in LBP2 will still be there in LBP3, and with them all the community play data. In any case, there has not been official words for that, and for me there is 99% probability that there won't be direct profile transfer. If there was, they should have told us in the announcement.

If you want more information that is not a simple user theory like mine, read this blog post (http://rocketcheetah.com/news/how-to-transfer-your-stuff-from-lbp2-to-lbp3/) if you haven't already read it. It contains a more detailed description about profile transfer on both PS3 and PS4, even though your question will be left unanswered.

Sorry, no, I made that post in the other forum and it got merged in here but I wasn't making it to pretend to make an announcement, but rather to try to get a clarification on their wordings and the possibility of data import on the PS4 version. I prefaced it with that first sentence to let anyone who would reply to the post know that I knew about the recent data transfer announcement, but I honestly didn't remember where I originally read it from.

Ok, so I've published a locked level on my Earth containing ALL of the MOVE content. I'm wondering whether it will recognise I actually bought the pack and will add it into my collection once I access it on my PS4. I know it says that you have to play the DLC again to access the content but doesn't it check to see which content you already have? Could this mess up what it 'thinks' it's unlocked whilst I'm playing again, and if so, should I delete it?2014-11-03 15:30:00

LBP1 GOTY content will not automatically transfer to LBP3 on either PS3 or PS4.

That content is exclusive to the disc, which is why it also isn't available in LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet PS Vita and LittleBigPlanet Karting.

If you purchased your DLC from the PlayStation Store or received it via a redemption code, you will be able to locate it in your PSN account's Downloads List on the PS Store and re-download the content for use in LittleBigPlanet 3.

That content WAS available in LBP2 though, I believe it read the game install data to see if you had installed LBP1 GOTY and if it did detect it, it'd enable all the costumes etc from it. I had access to the costume pieces from LBP1 GOTY edition in LBP2 with no issue at all despite me never buying them separately on the PS store.

That's also what I'm wondering. I would understand why the GOTY content won't transfer to LBP3(PS4 version), but since LBP2 transfered the GOTY content on PS3, why won't the LBP3(PS3 version) do that?

Play LBP1 (any %) = automatically unlock LBP1 content in LBP3

Complete a world photo (e.g. Victoria's Lab) in LBP2 = automatically unlock content for that photo (complete the story and unlock everything)
