I'm curious because earlier today my friend told me you have to be mm picked to be in the beta (which is completely untrue) but that got me thinking. Is there any requirements? Maybe you have to have certain amount of player hearts or be a person who contributes actively to the community?

The 2nd part - yes; from what I've seen, the people who get into the Beta are people who are active both in game on LBP titles and on community forums such as LBPC.

I'm not too active and I only have about 30 hearts so who knows (haven't published a level since the beginning of LBP2). I would guess it's because I'm active in bursts.

No, you're all wrong. You have to stand on your head while climbing a rope backwards WHILE saying the alphabet from the middle out. Then, and only then, do you have a 10% chance of getting in. Honestly though I think it's just I've been around for a while. Not super long but I keep coming back.
