Decorations Are Just Pale/White

When I place a decoration down that has the colour symbol on it, it turns white or grey with no colour whatsoever. How do you access the colours?2014-10-25 11:38:00

not sure if this is the only way, but i place it on sticker panel / hologram. make the opacity 0% so it's invisible in play / preview mode, and change the colour - the colour settings you select will be applied to the deco 2014-10-25 11:40:00

Mmmm ... It's a bit odd if that's how you're meant to do it. I would have thought, given they have the symbol, that there would be a menu built into the decorations to steak the colour directly.

edit: Nope, they just uniformly turn whatever colour you set and the goo just remains grey. The glowing coal doesn't look like the picture displayed at all. There must be another way. Perhaps it's not included yet?

Well.. I know that, if you place a animated decoration on a animated material, it will adapt that materials animation speed, so if you set the material's animation speed to 0, the decoration won't animate either. So the color thing may be the way they intended it to be used.. which is, as you say, pretty odd.2014-10-25 13:28:00

Are you seriously telling that you never messed with alternate color deco before? we had them ever since the start of LBP2, even tho in the early days they didn't have a icon telling you they could.

anyways they match the color of any object they are placed on that has color changing options on it such as sticker panel material, which is why if you place a light deco on your sackdoll it'll match the color of your personal popit just like the color changing outfits do. and no, there is no options in the deco itself to change it's color and there never was.

PS: the coal deco doesn't change color to start with. and far as it's icon looking little different from the actual 3D model. that happens often in the game because they don't always use a icon made from the actual model and other times the model change after the icon was made.

PPS: if by chance you are trying to change the color of deco on your earth then it won't work. all deco placed on the earth or moon will remain default white.

Well, in that case I'd have to say they're absolutely rubbish. I hope to God they remove those options and just give us the colours they're displayed in. For me, this is a huge step backwards from the decorations we used to have. It washes the same colour through the entire decoration. At least before you had nuances of colour that made them look appealing, even if you were stuck with the colour they offered.

The dripping slime stays pallid even when you change the sticker panel colour. What's the point in making it green in the icon and it NOT being green when you place it down? I hope they add a lot of new objects and more 'realistic' stickers because I'm not going to be using decorations much this time around. What a big disappointment.

Nonsense. most of us visual artists preferred almost all decos to be like this. it's super useful being able to change the color of the deco. sure it's not always great for costumes or the earth and moon since it needs a material or popit color to do it right. but you win some you lose some. you just need to get used to it. and me and most visual artists on LBP will disagree with you with that idea of that they should remove the color options.

PS: i have no idea what you are mean by the slime deco problem. the slime deco in the beta changes to any color such as red if i make the sticker panel red.

It's a good idea to place deco on sticker panel anyway, easier to reposition/tweak scenery layer/scale/rotation and you avoid single object sticker limit. Probably helps with dynamic thermo too, i.e. deco on that long wall but currently off screen won't need to be loaded if it's on it's own bit of sticker panel instead of being attached directly to the wall.

I do think for ease of use that when placed on a material without color or animation setting the deco should match the pop-it thumbnail, create mode is seriously un-kid friendly...and this gets back to the tedious/fiddly nature of create.

Everyone has said what I was going to say already. It's just something you have to grow used to. In all instances, you can change a decoration to whatever color it's displayed as in it's preview picture. If you're not able to change them at all, you might have some sort of bug. In one of my levels, I wasn't able to get animated materials to animate anymore.

But yeah, having the color-change option is much better than not having it. Having the netural color be white/gray is the way it has to be as well. Whenever that isn't the case, your options for color tweaking are limited. If a green slime was green as it's neutral color, then it's tweaked colors would end up being green with a blue/red/yellow tint, rather than being able to make it blue red or yellow.

The dynamic thermo just seems to love decorations in general I'm so used to staying away from decorations from vita that I don't even know what to with them now!
