there is a desert background you can use (you get it in the 4th single player world). it's got cacti, rocks, and i think some far back mountains. just change up the lighting/fog to your liking.2009-02-26 02:15:00

umm... you can literally make a cutome background... but make your level first, so you can place that background justly, if you know what i mean.

Cheers!

Check out the first level of the metropolis area in the story mode. That has a custom desert background It's a cutout construcion of thin layers in the back plane. It looks great though. I think you would be able to figure out how to do it after seeing it.

Good luck.

to make a background all you got to do is create objects on the thin VERY BACK plane and you can create whatever fits your level in the different sections... then play with the lighting settings to find what fits your level universally.

Cheers!

In my latest level i am working with a lot of giant dark matter attached spotlights set to (forgot what the setting was called , the first of the two settings where you can see the light in thin air but not shadow) and to a gloomy green color, then i put them on the furthest back layer so that the light covered the whole background of the level. This color gave it a very foresty feel, i then made some thin layer tree screens and put them on the furthest back and the second furthest back layer across the whole level. it took a lot of thermo but it is a really cool effect.
You could do something similar with a giant spotlight but set to either yellow or blue (depending on if you want a more realistic or atmospheric desert and then make some thin layer sand dunes or rock formations anb put them in the background.
If my explanation was so bad that you couldn't understand it then i could send you a key so that you could see what i'm talkning about.
Keep in mind that this effect works best if you have a blank and completely dark background, but i think you can get it working with just a blank one too.
