Don't Leave It To The Community To Show What LBP3 Can Do.

Archive: 16 posts

We all know that the developers make a conscious effort to make sure they only produce levels as bare boned (but pretty) as they can. This is clearly to encourage the community to build levels that exceed the game itself, and it's worked quite well up until now. Another aspect is that they tend to hold back on creating anything TOO un-LBP-ish simply because, once again, they want to offer the community a chance to shine.

I don't think they should approach it that way this time. I've been reading a lot of user comments and previews and there's a trend emerging that worries me just a tad. The consensus of opinion is, 'LBP3 looks great but it's just more of the same'. I've seen that written in a myriad ways and I've tried explaining in various threads around the internet that this just isn't the case. The problem is they're ALL (with the exception of a few individuals) only seeing the new characters and more depth. Do you honestly think the reviewers are likely to be experienced creators? No, most of them will make a judgement based entirely on the content of the disc.

This is EASILY rectified if the old approach is ditched and SUMO go out of their way to showcase the variety of possibilities. A reviewer couldn't ignore that and a reviewer would write about that. So, give us isometric levels, top down levels, a complete adventure/RPG and a third person exploration game. Push hard at the edges and make sure those reviewers CAN'T ignore or overlook the massive leap these new additions offer. If SUMO don't, I can guarantee the reviewers will overlook them and remove points for being 'more of the same'. And I'm talking about complete levels/games, not mini games as we've had in the past.

If people haven't noticed, this is open season on Sony exclusives, so make darned sure LBP3 doesn't get caught in the cross fire.

Kind of too late at this point.

Agreed. I don't care how much different it is from past games/what the limits are to this game, I'm just happy that a new game from this franchise is being released, because that's another year or so that keeps this community alive.

If that's not enough for you, then I don't know what is - they've obviously stepped up their game quite a bit and have done mostly everything the community has asked for if not more.

And who's to say none of this IS in the story mode?2014-10-22 01:26:00

Well, that's what I'm hoping for. The game can serve the existing community or expand the community.

What I find exceptional is this.

Some forget who "they" are. They are us!! Many former community creators have created this version and the Vita version of LBP. In fact, many from this very forum. ..which is why much of what we see is exactly what we have dreamed, hoped and discussed for several years.

That's what I'm hoping for. The Vita version was without doubt the best LBP game to date and you could see there was no holding back for the sake of offering the community a chance to 'best' the developers.

Yeah, they took it over the top with the top-down racing minigames, arcade games, everything was just perfect - it was as if I was playing an official story mode made by the people who made up all the best community created levels - because I was.

Hope they can replicate that feel with LBP3, especially with all the new tools avaliable to them + a whole new system.

So how much input DID 'they' have in LBP3?2014-10-22 06:27:00

I'd say a lot. The only huge feature that isn't hard to implement that they haven't touched is the preventing people from saving objects on your moon, but you have to be careful with that (I mean look at the backlash shortly after the boo rating was removed).
Oh wait, and HUD editor which is kind of sad (but that has to do with local players which i say just have an option to disable local players in a level)

What a great point! The first level from the community will probably be a copied one from the first lbp. Someone might think that the 16 layers or new characters will make their shark survival better -_-. We need to try and make a good level before someone else copies one and gets popular. Anyone up for the challenge? 2014-10-22 12:45:00

What do you mean the HUD editor? Did I miss something?

The HUD editor is a feature that has just been asked for in multiple places for a while since LBP2. It's so you don't have to have a HUD follow you around and avoid the camera changes (but it's not in the game. It's only been requested, so you have to work ALL around that.)2014-10-23 07:50:00

Didn't Karting have some kind of HUD thing?

Yes, it was nice but pretty limited in the end unfortunately (still it would be better than none)2014-10-23 10:46:00

I understand now. I thought it was about something else. I had Karting so I know about the somewhat customizable HUD. This is something that we desperately need.
