sounds like you don't know about analog values

here this is a good channel for tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/user/LBPlanetorials/videos) on analog values

after you understand those videos, approach the wave tool for yourself, and see how well you understand

The Wave Generator simply outputs a sine wave and you can tweak the time it takes to make one oscillation, the maximum/minimum values and various other parameters. The most common use for the tool is to create smooth "floating" motion or to make lights with a "throbbing" glow.

When it is set to Positional then you can use it to calculate sines and cosines of angles - very useful for moving things around in 3D space.

It can already be done in lbp2. I guess they made it easier in lbp3. You know, I kinda wish they didn't make all this stuff easier because I used to love to figure out how things worked in lbp, but I guess this would be helpful for people who struggle with creating :hero:

But yes. The wave thingy sounds really useful.

Amen, brother.

I'm not terrible at logic; I sometimes surprise myself ... but then I copy logic from someone like Alex and try to understand what he's done and why. It's at that point that I feel so darned inadequate. Some people are just so clever and I admire them greatly.

When logic is really complicated, it's like looking at an amazing picture that's very detailed. When it was being made, it was done piece by piece, and when you look at the finished product, each piece hits you simultaneously.

My point being. It's much harder to follow logic when it's in its final state. It's easier to understand for the one who made it, because they made it.

You also have to realize that LBP logic isn't the most intuitive. It just matches the ps3/4 to the best of its ability2014-10-27 07:39:00

I've always seen the comparison of LBP logic to actual code as a comparison between a picture book, and a book with no words- sort of. Can't fully explain that, but it makes sense in my head.

I dunno, it's more intuitive than writing code at least (and code is much easier for the PS3/PS4 to handle). What do you have in mind that's more intuitive?

I think it's about as intuitive as you can get for a graphical interface. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that it's not as intuitive as I think it could be because then it would just be flat coding as that's faster but less fun. Certain coding concepts though would greatly help the LBP creating experience (as well as 3D modelling terms) such as calling a method/function (you could say you can do it in LBP but it's not the same as recursion doesn't work), having instances of objects, and so forth.2014-10-27 17:27:00

Yeah. I know how the wave generator works, sorta, but what everyone's saying only makes it more difficult.

A good tip i can give you is to wire it in to some Sticker Panel, set the Sticker Panel to Dim, then see what it does and experiment with it. You'll definitely get the hang of it that way.

Basically it outputs this by default
http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/images/cosine-graph.gif
(Except it starts at 0 and goes up (this is a cosine graph but it is the clearest one I could find))
Fun things that I can think of with this is lights, movement, etc.

Some cool things to try:
setting the wave tool to a direction splitter to grab above the x-axis and below separately.
Hooking it up to a speed input in a timer/piston/etc.
More things that I'm too lazy to write

The Wave Generator is kinda one of those tools where you won't use it at first but sooner or later you'll wonder how the heck you created with out it! It is a VERY handy tool 2014-10-29 20:22:00
