As long as you don't drop it down the stairs, the chances of it breaking are slim.2009-02-25 22:29:00

A PS3 can live VERY long.
YLOD happens if your feeding cables aren't too good in your PS3.

what are the "feeding" cables?2009-02-25 23:55:00

It's not related to the cables. The yellow light means the motherboard is too hot. It indicates a overheating problem.

The PS3 is extremely reliable. I wouldn't worry if I were you. The defect are way below the industry standard as of now.

About 3 months. Lol I am just kidding, I have actually had really rotten luck with mine and it has broken twice since last christmas. That is really abnormal though and its because they sent me new ones each time. As soon as they actually repaired it, it stopped having issues. Most people havent had any problems. Except that one guy that threw his out the window. I doubt his warranty covers that lol besides from what I understand that was a temporary problem with 80 gig models that has been addressed as a whole.

Mine is great. (but yet again i still have a PS1, and a PS2, and a Gameboy Color that still work perfectly with out a stutter in the discs, and they all work, so my PS3 might last a while... so i would not know... everyone is different in how they treat things)

Cheers!

There seems to be the occasional problem with the laser ceasing to function. I think this is the biggest problem and it's still pretty rare.2009-02-26 06:23:00

I have two old PS2s that still work fine even though they're two of the oldest models. I'm hoping my 60 GB lasts as long as those did because I don't want to lose the backwards compatibility in that model. I don't expect the hard drive to last that long though.2009-02-26 11:20:00

lol I've thrown my ps2 around so much before getting a PS3, and it still works just fine. In fact my son plays it now that I have the PS3. lol2009-02-26 14:48:00

I got the YLOD...I think, it was something anyway, and I'd only been playin for....15 minutes....I left it for about half an hour, and I havent had a problem since. 2009-02-26 16:57:00

nah if it started working again then it wasnt the YLOD..

mine has a problem when it wont read blurays unless you load a demo and then start the game from there. idk what causes it, but its kinda annoying.

YLOD only means your thermometer was busted. It doesn't mean the machine won't work again. It could survive to brief over-heating.

It is when the PS3 is overheating. You associated it with simply busting because most of time, when you overheated, your motherboard is damaged and when this happens you're busted.

I have the 60 gig too, but I've had to send mine in twice for disc reading problems. I take very good care of it, so I was actually very disappointed when this happened. I've had it a little over a year now and I dont want to have to replace it with a new system because I don't want to lose the backwards compatibility. By the way, does anyone know why Sony would take that feature away on the newer models? Cause it ****** me off.:kz:

I heard that it already costs more to make them and they are selling them for. I guess all the profits come from the games?2009-02-26 22:53:00

You're one of the very few unlucky persons to have a defect console. This happens with all consoles really. There's been roughly the same number of Wii defects. The PS3 is even more reliable than the PS2 and PS1 was so far.

The fact they changed their model and removed hardware from it is because they realised they were selling at a way too hight price for people to they had to accelerate their cost reduction in order to offer a price drop to people and get more sales.

Right now they shouldn't more stuff from the machine because they are finally profitable but will cut the price regardless in the coming months because the sales were under their expectations since last November.
