Would you like to increase the multiplayer cap in LittleBigPlanet?3?

Archive: 24 posts

So I'd like to make a poll concerning the multiplayer cap in LBP3. A load of people wants to see it increased, and some people want it to stay the way it is.

I'd like to hear your voice, and maybe the message will reach out to StevenI, or Sumo Digital game devs.

There are, of course, pros and cons with both of the options. But you pick what you want to see.

I think it should be the way it is because of the illuminati....no I'm just kidding. I think it should be the same because 4 players just seems right. And it would feel way to crowded with more. To me 4 players was perferct in the begining and still is perfect now.2014-10-19 17:07:00

In those RPG and "house" games people make more people than 4 would be PARADISE for them.2014-10-19 17:53:00

I feel that having more players can add a lots of variety to levels and hanging out in general.
For levels, you can make a 4 vs 4 team battle, great RPs, etc. And personally it's more fun have team gameplay with a big team instead of 2 vs 2. There are no downsides, besides lag I guess but that depends on who is playing.

we say this should be an option, but it simply can't BE

too much lag, and the thermo a sackboy takes up is very large (one or two bars if I'm correct) so you can see the taxation of RAM the connection of more players takes on the system, and if I'm correct its exponential, because all players have to connect to each other

I'm pretty sure they can expand the thermo.

no, because the same game* has to be able to be produced for both systems (besides a few graphical tweaks which are togglable) as player amounts are not as easily togglable, so thermo becomes a bigger issue with some subjects than others

Well I'm pretty sure there won't be any lag any way, If you can have 10 sackbots without lag then you can have 10 players without lag.2014-10-19 23:33:00

yeah, I see your side of it, but it makes me wonder why more players = more crashing w/ higher thermo levels, (which is why people recommend slack in your thermo; for more players) I just feel like everything new in LBP3 + PS3 currently crashing people, and added players would just lead to PS3 failure

I wouldn't hate sumo giving it a try though

How are sackbots and players the same thing? I would think the outside connection and other outside variables would stack far more than a simple bot.

I'm not saying they're the same, I'm just saying they're not that complex if you catch my drift...

It would be awkward to control but you could rig up a system with the controlinator where each half of the pad is a different player like the old Micro Machines games.2014-10-20 09:34:00

I wouldn't think they'd be complex, it's how they affect the levels that I'm curious about. I don't know a lot on the technical aspect, but I'd think that the more players that have to keep up with the connection and the more data that has to be sent due to the interactions amongst all players, it would create lag.

Though I don't know much about this stuff.

Why do you say that it would work? I'm just curious as to what proof or data you have to go by, and how you got it, to say it could work.

I don't think the problem is in the players themselves, it's in all the costume pieces and decorations they might be wearing. Some of those animated or moving ones really eat up thermo. Together with the details and decorations of the level scenery it becomes too much for the PS3 to handle, and you get frame drops. That's why people recommend leaving 2 bars free, and with 7 players you'd need 4 free bars then.2014-10-20 10:51:00

Seems like you folks don't want to increase the multiplayer player cap. Well that's OK for me! People have their own thoughts about things
However the poll will continue to around the release of LBP3, so let the votes flow in! It's always fun to see what people think!

I have no idea about the whole thermo thing, as they can just leave the place.
But at most I would like to see the cap be 16 people. Why 16? Think of the possibilities. 16 people in a party in the pod, 16 people in versus maps, more options for creators, more incentive to play with random people. It should be limited to 4 people in the moon though. And 4 people on PS4 local, as it can only support 4 controllers, or 8 I think.

Just imagine someone making a top down tank level with 16 people, or a 16 player race. The PS4 could handle it easily.

The PS3 however could only handle 4. Another incentive to buy the PS4 version.

There is no big downside to having more players, if you want to make a level that has less players then do that. But if you're saying the PS3 can only handle 4 and PS4 could handle more then why not make LBP3 PS4 have 10 players then? It doesn't have a down effect on PS3 ver and eventually everyone will upgrade to PS4 sooo.....2014-10-21 00:34:00

Personally I think that anything above 8 is too much. I do think 6 is a plausible amount, though - there's always those two or three friends who can't join due to a full pod. 2014-10-21 01:02:00

Looks like more people would like to raise the cap, Like I said before no downsides.2014-10-23 20:25:00

It's lagging enough with two players.2014-10-23 20:33:00

The following diagrams should explain why adding more players isn't as simple as it may sound:

I hope this helped.

They could always recreate how stuff works, and this is just me asking if this "lag" wasn't a "problem" would you like to raise the cap? I don't see why you would not want this.2014-10-23 22:22:00

I didn't care earlier, but I just realised there might be a trophy for getting 7 players in your pod then, so I must vote no! 2014-10-23 23:35:00
