Need major help in making my levels

Archive: 7 posts

Hello all,
As you possible notice I am new here so hello to everyone, know I've been playing for over a week complete main story and know I am just getting trophies.

Yesterday I started making my own levels pretty simple stuff using the stuff I had collected throughout the game and making an all obstacles level.
I have looked at all tutorial (getting the letters, nos but not completing it for some reason) Know I want to try and complicate in the way I build my levels but I've been struggling.

1) How do I make a spotlight follow sackboy?
2) How can I make a loop a car can go round? And what kind of car would I need to make?
3) How can I make the stuff where you bubble along?
4) I want a level with loads of sponge blocks how could I make it so they fall from the sky every so often and then the bottom ones dissolve?
5) I tried to make a ramp a car could go up which work perfect with dark matter (horrible colour), and i tried to have it so at the end it would go over a red button to activate a bomb on a dinosaur i got online but it never blew up how comes? I also tried making after stuff but didn't seem t owork

All I can remember that I wanted to ask but I may ask more later
Hope someone can help
Thanks for reading

hmm well welcome..

you may have to go into more detail about some of these things, not quite sure about what you mean.

1) hmm as far as I know, you cant.. somone may know better, but the only thing I could sugest would be like an overhead track where the spotlight is attached to a trolley with creature wheels and a brain. the thing would be set to follow, with a radius that is huge. a rig like this may work, but probably not as well as you would hope.

2) a loop a car could go around? umm if this means what I think it means, any kind of car should work. Just make your loop (probably by cutting into a cirlce shape. the car just needs to move fast enough. hope that helps.

3) I have no idea what you mean.

4) Emitors in the ceiling set to emit the sponge blocks, they will handle things falling and dissappearing. play with them alot, they may take a while to really figure out.

5) is the button hooked to the bomb? did it really press the button? it may be moving too fast and not really activating the switch. try using a proximity switch or a magnetic switch on the track and a magnetic key on the car.

good luck.

Welcome... just adding a hint:

5) check the material the dino is built with, not every material blow up with bombs.
You can change it with the appropriate tool.

For the ramp in dark matter, you can sticker it to change color (with only 1 huge-oversized sticker)

A spotlight following the player is one of the hardest things to make in LBP, it will require a bunch of switches and a lot of creativity. The creatore following with it will work but won't do it smoothly. I've seen a following spotlight somewere though, it was definately not easy....

Try not to make stuff out of dark matter. Make it out of something else and stick a bit of dark matter to it, out of sight .

adding a creature brain is also what i can think of, im interested to what wyth had to say tho... what level is that?

okay EDIT here:

i just thought of something else that would also work, attach a proximity switch (widen your radius) to your piston (set to directional) thats connected to your light (have your light radius as wide as you can)

as you move forward and activate the switch the light would then follow you through the piston.

one downside tho... your only limited to moving forward if you go back the light wont be able to follow. (but it stops where its at)

hope that helps

i have an improvement on that idea if you want the light to follow you in both directions then it depends on how many plains of existence you are using for the sack boy to be in if you only need one the what you could do is ...well i'll show you:http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=272&pictureid=2593
you would have to set the:

proximity sensors to directional and inverted and attach them to the winches on either side(one switch attached to one winch and the other sensor to the other winch)

winches to maybe 20 or 30 depending on the size of your switch and giving them a maximum length that is at least twice the size of the actual visible part and a minimum that is about half the size of the visible part

three position switch to directional and attach the switch to the pistons

have the entire thing hidden behind a thin plain wall or something with the spotlight sticking out over the sackboy i think it should work if you do it properly and if you set the piston to the right speed so that it moves at the same rate as the sackboy

i hope the picture wasn't to confusing

if you cant see this pic is also in my albumsxD

i always thought the best way to improve ur creator skills is 2 work things out urself or by playing other levels ( im not being rude ) i mean like if i play around on the creator long enough i make some interesting discoveries, but if u use other peoples ideas, its not really ur imagination just think deeply and play around wit the tools till something works, the more u build the better u become

btw lol ur name is awesome Savemejeebus from simpsons ;p
