So what's actually possible?

Archive: 16 posts

I haven't seen a thread for questions about what can/cannot be done.
I have a few ideas in my head, but I don't know if they are possible or not.

Example of a few questions I have:

Is something like the 3D Manuvear Gear possible with the power-up creator?
The ropes might be possible, but what about the appearence? I can't seem to embed or link pics right now, but look it up.

Also, is it possible to store characters in a sackpocket as well as power-ups?
I have an idea for a level which allows you to purchase characters, and then switch between them at will through an inventory.

If anyone knows the possibility of all of this, please feel free to tell me.

You can also feel free to ask questions for beta testers to answer here too, I haven't seen a "q&a" thread, so I made one

We'll in a nutshell, in lbp2, we thought we could create pretty much whatever we wanted. But once again, we were proven wrong! Now, the posibilities are more than doubled! And even that I'm not sure of! We have smooth transition between 3D layers, new characters to customize and enjoy, the ability to CREATE POWERUPS, custom stickers are no longer exclusive to the move, and so much more. The truth is, if we were finding all the stuff u can make in lbp, we'd be stuck on the first one! Lbp is truly a magnificent game

So to answer Your questionz YES, YES, YES. and if u can't figure out how, u just gotta monkey around a bit.

yes, its very very certainly possible, dare I say easy

the hardest part would be calculating momentum with grappling, but I'm sure with feedback loops it's a snap

Not sure what you mean by "characters". If you Mean Toggle, Swoop, etc...then, yeah. I bet you could do that.

Additionally, I imagine you could change powers using the sackpocket by using powerups to turn on/off various broadcasting chips.

What I don't know is if sackbots can use the sackpocket or the sackpocket could be used to switch out various sackbots. It MIGHT be doable, but I'd be lying if I said I knew for sure.

well, yeah, there is a character tweaker, just make a "GUN" that turns activating player into a new character

their wasn't in the beta

* sackboy can use created power -ups in top-down rotation

* as long as you pre make it into the custom power-ups, logic outside the guns can still interact with it

so you could create a upgrade system for custom power-ups

And someone tell me what the broadcast microchip is really good for, like in game play wise or how it can help in general.

It's a live feed microchip that places itself on things

kind of like how people have those live feeds for infinite scroller levels, same for microchips, and they also have the ability to place themselves on things

The broadcast chip logic will be copied to where ever you want in the level, and if you change the logic on the broadcast chip all the copies change with it. So if you need to make fixes or improvements you just have to do it once, on the broadcast chip. And you can limit the range of broadcasting, so for example when you have some logic on your sand blocks to make them disappear when you use a custom shovel powerup only the sand blocks nearby will have the extra logic, which saves on thermo.

You can also send logic to players. For example, put a broadcast chip on a sackbot that sends a kill tweaker to all touching players to give the player whatever death animation you want when the sackbot touches them.

Finally, in LBP2 you could never get something to infinitely copy itself, because the dynamic emitter would only snapshot the previous version without an object in the emitter. But the broadcast chip can broadcast an emitter to certain tags, and have the emitter emit an object with that tag. It's not a common wish, but people have been asking for this in the past.

Just wondering,

for any of you guys who got into the Beta and weren't the best creators, would you say Create Mode got harder or easier with the new tutorials and such? Or is it simply too complicated now? I wasn't that great creating in LBP2 and I'm hoping that LBP3 would clear some things up so everyone can make levels without knowing how an XOR gate works.

Same with new perspective, You just have to take more things into mind now.

I understand... but I don't understand... I need to see it in person.

There aren't really any tutorials for the new tools in the beta. Most of the new tools in the beta are graphical-based but if the XOR gate seems a bit complicated it might be initially confusing (though I never really find much use for the XOR gate). Community levels that are logic based are team picked so that helps a lot.

I haven't been able to play the beta in a few days (got essays to write), but I was wondering whether anyone has been able to make slides that can be traversed backwards. In a sense, turning slides into "ramps" that can be walked up or slid down (or walked down). I imagine that you would have to use an animation tweaker to pull this off, but I'm not sure that it's even possible since I don't have the time to review all of the tools and their capabilities at the moment.

I just think that smooth vertical transitions between layers would be much better if they weren't restricted to a single direction.

sadly it is restricted at the moment, but you can... fake it with impact sensors and movers, like a hoverboard? its very ugly looking but its the best you will get with ramps

so officially, no you cant
