Archive: 32 posts

Hey Sack Boys and Girls! this is my first post on LBPC and i just joined today. i saw this forum and it seemed to be the most popular and i have tons of ideas i want to share. i'm an artist and love to build stuff from legos to a lil engineering. My PS3 has been doomed to the yellow light of death so it is in process of repairs. i have a Tablet PC too so pictures is probably how i'll post my ideas.

check out the thread to see my plans for my LBP LVL i have other LVLs too some plans others on the PSN. let me know what you think.

Well first let me say welcome!

ok idea sounds pretty cool, like a whole level thats an infinate train? cool...

not sure about some of the elements in the picture though... for instance the dark matter you have labled on the cars at the top.. if theres dark matter in them they cannot move..

anyway im sure youll figure out a way to work this all out (as soon as you get you PS back, good luck on that though)
if you need any help or have any questions, were always glad to help.

good luck and cant wait to try it out.

I'm definitely down with this... after I finished Metal Slug Solid I went back and played through all of them, and this seemed like it would have been the coolest level to remake. I obviously never got around to it though...

I'm all for it, so definitely do this if you can...

This looks like a great idea. Not too difficult to implement either.

Good luck with your PS3 repairs.

ok I get it now, the train doesnt move, the background does, it just looks like the train moves.. brilliant! love the idea, so yea hope your ps3 comes in soon, did you ship it off to get fixed? if so was it under warenty or did you have to dish out the $180?

anyway good luck, cant wait to try it out soon as you get it made.

i actually just got the box to send it for repairs today. i wasn't under warranty so it ended up being 159.03...lame huh? anyway i have other great lvls i made but i really want to learn how to make some of the cooler stuff i've seen on LBPC like a teleporter. i could really use something like that.

what do you think that i can add to this?

you could add a bunch of different stuff, how about some kindof boss that you defeat by knocking them from the train. (think leatherhead in TMNT 4 on Snes) umm other than that I would glue some poison gas to the moving cars, so that falling from the train means death. cant really think of anything else right now.

man yea i talked to them on the phone about my ps3 (not quite as serious a problem as the yellow light but still annoying) they wouldnt fix it either without the buck sixty.. the customer support at sony is ridiculously unhelpful. I mean my X box died and was out of warrenty and they were tripping over themselves trying to get me a new one. PS3 is just like "nope sorry nothing we can do" thats why my new big screen plasma is a LG and not a sony. that 1500 bucks there never gonna get from me.

seems fun, I hope it works.
as for your ps3, I've never heard of that. sorta like the xbox's ring of death thingy.

i'm actually thinking about having a boss at the end but it'll be inside. i think what i'll do is draw it out right now.

what do you think of this idea?
oh and i will for sure have paintinators and a walkthrough on youtube.

Checkout a level called Runaway Train by Crudzilla. He did a really good example of what you're talking about. Creating a moving background that makes it look like the train is moving. He even had the train going over things like bridges and other details passing through in the foreground.

It's really well done. Good luck with the level. Sometimes something that seems simple on paper winds up being much trickier when you actually sit down to make it.

well i haven't quite figured out that but i was thinking that with a paintinator you could shoot down the vent and blow up the bombs in its face. you have any ideas?

You need to be careful what you put in the foreground of the landscape as at the moment it's blocking what the player sees, increasing the speed it goes pass would resolve this problem.

Increasing the speed of the landscape would make things more exciting as well, you'd be on a train and hurtling down the track rather than crawling along at walking pace, maybe something akin to these two levels from modern games:

YouTube - TimeSplitters FP: 1969 "The Khallos Express" (Part 1)

The Khallos Express from Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

YouTube - Killzone 2 - 7x01 - Tharsis Refinery - Suljeva Minetrain

Suljeva Minetrain from Killzone 2.

Using subtle lighting attached to the landscape every now and then would be interesting too, as it hurtled pass everything would be lit up by it.

There are loads of things you could do with this level.

Thats looking very good. Have you sorted the problem where the background was'nt appearing at times?

I agree with Ayneh above, you need to speed it up and add some lighting. You could maybe use a randomiser (if you hav'nt already) and have different back grounds appearing.

After watching that video for Timesplitters I can't wait for part 4. I loved that game

i think i will speed things up and take some of the obstructions out. the only thing is that it needs to start off slow and then speed up and then slow down again. do you think thats still possible?

Add a sensor to the plane door, I could see people getting bothered by that.

Also I'm a bit confused is the train moving or the background?

yeah i'm not going to leave the plane door like that, that would be annoying.

the level is moving.

Your level looks cool. I will want to try it out when it's published. I would change the material of the train or decorate it though, if you have the therometer space.2009-03-19 22:46:00

Nice level. I didn't notice this thread earlier.

Looks like I was having a similar idea, i'm in the planning stage of a train level with a background that moves. I'm curious to see how your will end up. I'll keep you posted on mine (called Crazy Train)

i'm really looking forward to seeing yours i have a lot of testing to do to make it work. i think when i find out the right settings then i'll post them so that everyone can copy it easily.2009-03-20 22:47:00

Wow, just seen your video, look's really great. Remember, if you run out of thermo space, just use less materials. I always try and use 8 materials max, also use stickers more than materials. Also, making your level look great is another important thing to add.2009-03-20 22:59:00

Hey if you are still working on it, i can asure you that it works with high speed. But the speeding up seems not possible for me.

YouTube - Kikaiwa: Strain of life

Keep working on it. LBP needs more train levels

Here is a thread that discusses the technique and could give you some tipps

i'm actually posponing my work right now for a Megaman Legends remake in LBP. alot of the things i'm working now, in that lvl, i'll use for my fortress train lvl and future lvls.

the fortress train is actually lvl 3 in a story. i don't have a name for the game or story but here are the lvls and titles if your interested.

in this story your zPlayer and you work with a good scientist named Dr. Wiki and he helps you fight against an evil scientist named Dr. Moku and his plans to take over the world.
these are the lvls and what i plan for them. the titles are subject to change.

Unexpected attack on an Unexpected Scientist: city lvl where you meet Dr. Wiki and Moku
Z Base: a show off of my projects and trainning ground for my personal jet
Fortress train: infinate lvl
secret base: this is where the fortress train takes you.
sandy vacation: was my wifes idea to have a pyramid lvl
chase in the sky: use wiki's air ship to chase moku down in his.
airial takedown: moku has an air base that you'll destroy.
icey retreat: moku retreats to a secret base in the mountains to find that he is working on a new project(a sigma like mech)
city investigation: talk to ppl in the city to find moku
save the city, a new threat: i want to remake Megaman X's Sigma last form.
underground base: you'll infiltrate moku's base to destroy the new threat
attack on z base: you'll save dr.wiki's base from moku

these are some extra lvl ideas

walk down memory lane: you'll learn who Dr.wiki and moku are and why they fight
warhawk: Master Pilots of my jet can play in a warhawk like lvl
introducing the personal jet: POSTED!! temporary lvl so ppl can use my jet

these are my other threads and vids

Tried making a simple train level but it's really difficult to get the terrain moving fast! Using wheels to move the background along doesn't work very well...2009-03-27 23:08:00
