Stickered Material

Archive: 5 posts

With the hopefully soon release of the image import tool with Cornish Yarg, I started thinking about how texturing materials could be done. The obvious way is to import your images and apply them to materials manually. But what if you wanted to use a series of stickers as textures throughout your level? Tiling textures using the sticker tool is very tedious, time-consuming, and ugly, not to mention it raises thermometer usage.

But what if MM invented a new type of material, one dedicated just to stickers and texturing? It would have a weight between cardboard and stone, and would have an option to choose a sticker to tile as a texture. This way, you don't have to go manually stickering textures yourself. It would also have a tile size slider in the popit menu for setting the size of the texture being tiled, for many small tiles or a few big ones.

What do you guys think? If image importing ever makes it in, I think the stickered material is a must for serious... er... "texturers." :hero:

That would be really helpful! Stickering textures is tedious and time-consuming for sure. Although... if we haven't seen the image importing feature by now due to whatever ridiculous reasons they have for reneging on it, I doubt we ever will. Sad... but true.2009-02-25 00:34:00

This is a pretty well thought out, and really good idea.

Hopefully MM gets wind of it and tries their hand at it. If we ever get the image import tool, it'd be awesome

Yeah, this material wouldn't really be useful without image import.

Update: I've suggested this in the LBPC Best Suggestions List for Mm (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=156753)!

I don't think having a new material is the best approach, because I want to be able to do this with glass as well, and who knows what other material types. Instead, I suggest putting stickers should be tweakable, with options for making a sticker repeat in the X or Y axis. Much like the settings for the wallpaper on your desktop.2009-03-05 12:17:00
